Hi Folks,
Yes it can be done. I am here to report that Remeron does not sentence one to permanent Porky Pig-dom (a.k.a. the pork-o-genic syndrome). I've been using the Oxycise videos that I ordered from the web while searching for an effective workout. Ordered them from Amazon.com. It uses a specialized deep breathing along with a routine that takes 15 minutes.Well, after one week I gotta tell you that the girl is looking good! I don't think I've dropped pounds as much as am tightening up and definitely feeling more energized. What a relief. I was beginning to feel like the little Poppin' Fresh guy with cellulite.
I'm not an evangelist for Oxycise whatsoever. It's just something that happens to be working for me since it's not jarring (fibromyalgia) and it's quick (15 min.), so I'm able to commit to it every day. I know how frustrating it is to hear about exercise in the midst of a severe episode - it's way too much to deal with. But once the meds kick in and we can manage it, I really think moving our life force is the magic bullet. - Barbara

Remeron blocks the 5ht3 receptor which is nausea, appetite, thus causing one to eat more. Yes, its bad , but i feel so much better, thus working out more. Stick with a high protien low carb diet. No saturated fats. When you get hungry, eat salad, fruits, etc. Remeron makes you very hungry and binge. esp at night. i gained 15lbs from it, but feel much better. yes if i go off remeron, i will loose wieght, and appettie, but all my anxiety and depression returns and i feel like hell, thus not doing much of anything but lay in my house and veg.
adding a stimulant such as desipramine, or dexadrine may help alot, and not cause anxiety like ephedrine or welbutrin

Yes, I have noticed that I want to binge at night. I get 'chocolate crazies' just like I used to get when I went premenstrual. Do you suggest the dexedrine or other stim to block the appetite? Have you had success with such?

barb, i never tried dexadrine yet, but i want to try it. It is a stimulant and should counteract sedation. Im not sure of appetite, but any dopamine agaonist should decrease appetite.
Good luckgeno

Hi Geno,
Tomorrow I have an appt with my pdoc to discuss this whole matter. I've heard from other members of this board that the dexedrine that would be prescribed as a pstim is not likely to be much of an appetite suppresant. Have you tried SAM-e? That's supposed to be a dopamine agonist. I do take it, but most of my crazed hunger binges occur around 9-10pm after the SAM-e has worn off.I don't want to take anything too stimulating because I have probably BPII and a definite anxiety component to my depression. Also, my pdoc is very reluctant to prescribe a 'speed' type drug since I've had a bit of - ahem- problem with meth in my younger days.
Anyhow, will keep you all informed. But the exericse is DEFINITELY helping (however, I was too dang sore to do anything today).

Remeron is a paradoxical AD. It causes alot of sedation at first, but the higher you go, the NE kicks in. I appreciated the fuzziness and tiredness at first since I was pretty stressed out and wired when I started it (started with 15 mg). It allowed me to sleep deeply, but getting up was difficult. The first week or so I felt like I was in a woozy fog but that wore off. I'm now on 45 mg and have noticed a definite brighter more alert feel to it and much more energizing. It's really the only AD that has worked the best for me.
I was on Effexor for a short time and don't remember the drowsy side effects, but just hated it. Absolutely hated it and had a hell of a time getting off it. The other one was Zoloft which I liked alot, but the general flatness, both sexually and otherwise, were a problem. Plus it just pooped out. I need lithium to give the Remeron a boost because I have a history of antidepresant poop-out. Other than the weight gain, which I'm combatting by exercise, I think it's the greatest drug I've encountered. - BCat
There are alot of posts here on this board, both pro and con.

I found my weight gain leveled off with remeron and have only really kept on 5 pounds of it. However the constipation is quite another thing. Have any of you had to resort to stronger laxatives to keep you regular while you are on this med.
Take care.

I'm currently trying Wellbutrin XL because i've not had much success with any SSRI but Paxil. The main reason I quite Paxil was the complete diminishing of sexual desire, otherwise it for me was the best "feel good" AD I have ever taken. How do you like Remeron as an AD, because that is my next one to try as it is not suppose to have the sexual sides and nausea that come with Paxil and other strong SSRI's.
This is the end of the thread.
