My doc put me on Lexapro (daily) and Ativan (when needed) for anxiety and panic attacks. My panic attacks are pretty severe when I am traveling. My question is, What would be a good dose to sedate me enough to help me relax more when I am traveling? My dose currently is .5mg when needed. It doesn't seem to help much when I take the .5mg (except maybe mentally). Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi,
I'm on the same does of Ativan as you. I think it's a pretty standard dose. Ask your doctor if it's okay if you take one and a half, that should help.

Last year when I flew to Hawaii, I took up to 3mg or even more, I lost track, on the plane. I don't like flying, so I thought the ativan would help. I only take ativan on a prn basis, so 2mg is usually alot for me. It helped some, but not enough for me to actually relax to enjoy the flight. I thought if I just kept taking more, maybe I would fall asleep, but it didn't work. I know if I had not taken any, I would really be uncomfortable. I don't know if I have helped or not, but you will have to experiment on the flight, and it depends on how long the flight is. But I do think you should take some before you even get on the plane, that is where I screwed up. I should have taken more ativan the day before the flight and the day of the flight before I got on the plane. So take it before you fly and then if you are still really anxious, take a little more when you are the plane.
Good luck.

when you are the plane. Although if you take enough ativan, you might start to feel you are the plane.

.5mg is usually the standard dose physicians give for patients with anxiety traveling, whether by bus, train, or jetliner.
I would tell your physician that it doesn't seem to help much when you take the .5mg (except maybe mentally)
He/she should be certainly helpful in maybe adjusting your dosage in coping with your anxiety and traveling.
Good luck:-)> My doc put me on Lexapro (daily) and Ativan (when needed) for anxiety and panic attacks. My panic attacks are pretty severe when I am traveling. I take Lexapro and it makes me very jittery. To sleep, I take 2.0 mg of Ativan (lorazapam). I try to limit it to sleeping because I know I am going to have a hard time when I need to give it up.
I don't know how much to take before traveling. I've never taken it while on a plane. I feel paranoid that if I was "put out" by Ativan on a plane ride, and something happened, I wouldn't be alert enough to respond.

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to call my doc and get his opinion. Thanks all!
