T - Do youknow him

Maybe I do, I remember in one of my 30 conitive therapy sessions being asked exactly what I was afraid of, my best answer was - nothing in particular, but everything! and maybe how I feel and will feel after I have woken up tomorrow morning!
My illness started after 2 years of chronic pain and did not include panic attacks or suicidal thoughts just pure unadulterated fear!
After many ad trials which resulted in nothing or worsening I took myself off to see Dr Jensen in California, he diagnosed a form of gad and suggested xanax would work well for me and gave me some.
I then returned to England and tried everything else virtually on his short trial list including eventually valium , librium and klonopin. klonopin was mildly helpful the others either made me more anxious ( valium!!) or very low (librium).
Finally one awful day in the Yorkshire town of Otley I felt so bad I partially overcame my fear of benzos (xanax in particular) and took .25.
Nothing , so 45 minutes later thank heaven I took the other half and 30 minutes later- Relief!!
No high , no sedation just normality!!!

I am not daft enough to think it will necessarily work for you, but if you can get a good doc to try a Jensen style trial you may find relief without months of waiting for other meds to "kick in".
I am not a Jensen devotee but it sure helped me!

I actually now use it 2-3 times a month but always carry one with me! For me a xanax in the pocket is like 10 in the stomach!

I also take celexa , although it took me 3 months to get to 20 mg and I also meditate daily , exercise and use cognitive stuff, none of which helped in the slightest when I was at my worst ( including 3 hour meditations daily for 4 months!)

Whereas previously trying to slow down my brain and stop ANTS, as the cognitive lot call, them felt like putting my hand out to stop a speeding car, it is now much more easy.

One measurement I found helpful was my cortisol levels, both salivary and urinary found them to be 10x the norm and this could be something to look into.

Ihope you find something, fear is a life destroyer!
If there is anything else I can do let me know

Good Luck

Glenn

Wow! That's impressive. Yes, I think CBT is the only way to long-term healing. In the short term, I need meds (as much as I dont like to admit it) to help slow my mind down.

I will have to study the Jensen method. I have never heard of it or him.

In what ways specifically has CBT helped you? Or meditation? Or anything else non-medicinal?

I know exactly what you mean about 1 mg of Xanax (or Klonopin in my case) in my pocket is better than 10 mg in my stomach.

Please explain this statement more: "One measurement I found helpful was my cortisol levels, both salivary and urinary found them to be 10x the norm and this could be something to look into."
