Just thought I'd post this, as so many seem to think you can't take this type of medication without developing rapid tolerance. I've been taking the same dose this whole time and it still helps me every bit as well as it did when I first started taking it -- which, even more than before, leads me to believe that it's the action on serotonin and norepinephrine of tramadol that makes it so efficacious.

You're the first one I've come across. My tolerance comes on in less than one week.

Hey Ame, just one quick question about the ultram- is it or morphine considered an opiate. Ive heard bad things about opiates, particularly one comment made in the bood" change your brain, change your life" about opiates that says those that have taken them for extensive periods of time show marked decreases in the overall activity of their brains. It also says that it is one of the most brain damaging drugs.
By the way, still waiting for my order of ultram to come in the mail.

Morphine is an opiate, because it comes directly from the opium poppy. Ultram is an opioid, because it is manufactured synthetically but still acts like an opiate.

I haven't tried it myself (yet), but I've read somewhere that using Ultram - first day on, second day off - prevents tolerance. Just my 2 cents. I will definitely try to use it in such way as soon as I refill my prescription.

Sounds like a good approach... I may try that if I ever see any tolerance developing (though at the 9 week point I'm pretty confident that any tolerance will be minimal). My psychiatrist also offered me the options of switching to Subutex, OxyContin, morphine, or pretty much any other opioid that doesn't contain APAP, ibuprofen, caffeine, or aspirin. So I think I'm pretty well covered. :-)
Oh, just one thing though... say you take 100mg Ultram four times daily (like I do). I'd imagine that taking 200mg four times daily on your "on" days would be a good idea. Any thoughts on this? I just may try it.

You use *how* much?!? Jehosephat! 100 mg would have be buzzing, big time. 200? Not a chance.

lol, well it's the highest dose recommended by the FDA, and case reports of Ultram use in depression/OCD say that something in the range of 300-400mg/day is normally required. I've certainly never gotten a buzz from it, though... sure, it makes me feel better soon after taking it, but so do benzos, and I don't get a buzz from them either.
