I've been on Wellbutrin for about 4 weeks, after weaning myself off of Paxil (horrible side effects for me on Paxil, little withdrawal symptoms). But for about the same period of time I've been on Wellbutrin, I've been REALLY bitchy and angry. I obsess about people I'm angry at, and it just makes it worse. I haven't had any anger issues since I was in my early 20s (now 36). A connection?

What dosage and type of Wellbutrin are you taking? i.e. Wellbutrin SR 150 a.m. and p.m.
I found myself very irratible the first few weeks on the instant wellbutrin when I began it so many years ago.
Angry outbursts and irratibility seem to be common side effects of the drug.
Do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages? I had to cut almost all coffee (woo the whole 2 mugs) out of my life. I found the caffeine made my irratibility on the Wellbutrin far worse.

I don't have any of the anger issue such as outbursts on the Wellbutrin all these years later.

Thanks! That's the exact dose -- 150mg Wellbutrin SR in the morning, 150mg at night.
I got rid of caffeine before I started taking the drug......do you think the anger/irritation might subside after being on Wellbutrin a bit longer?
I'm so paranoid after having taken Paxil, which gave me major and debilitating side effects. I think I'm very sensitive to any drug's side effects, unfortunately. But I just can't go back on Paxil....I really need Wellbutrin to work for me.

Good thing you ditched the caffeine. I believe, and I'm not a health care practioner, that the 'short tempered/quick boiling point' side effect of Wellbutrin does go away with time. I had to become very conscious of my behaviour and what would likely trigger such explosive anger in me and avoid those triggers. I had to proactively modify my behaviour until the blow up urge went away--and it did with time.

I hope Wellbutrin works for you. How long have you been on it at that dosage? I had to work up and down very slowly as I was sensitive to the changes.Good luck and remember to take some deep breaths and count to five next time you're so blasted angry. I know just how that feeling is. I remember it exactly since it was so out of character for me to be that outwardly angry.

> Thanks.Maybe its spiking your resting blood pressure or pulse? And thats making you feel uptight, wound up and irritable? Have you checked your blood pressure and resting pulse rate since being on Wellbutrin? Of all the antidepressants Wellbutrin is one of those that can potentially elevate blood pressure and/or pulse in some individuals. Thats cause it works on dopamine and noradrenaline and has a stimulant like antidepressant effect.
Id check your BP and pulse...if either are elevated I bet thats it and Wellbutrin may not be the med for you.

Wellbutrin made me irrationally irritable and sometimes angry, it scared me, because normally I'm almost pathologically passive and don't eveb get angry when I should. Effexor did the same thing to me.
I'm still on the Wellbutrin, and yes the anger went away away in I think just a few weeks, I'm still slightly more irritable than I was but nothing that like it was in the beginning. I've just gotten really good at apologizing :(

Guys,Thanks for the posts. Your information has really been helpful. I'll get my BP checked -- I've never really had problems with it before, so I guess I'll find out if Wellbutrin is affecting it. I hope this "is" the drug for me, because it's gotten rid of all the horrible lethargy problems I've had...and I think the anger is subsiding....
