> I have been off of Effexor now for almost a month and have been experiencing severe anxiety, which was never present while on Effexor.I am just curious if this is something that is common when coming off of this drug? Has anyone else experienced this before and does it subside? If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.I fear this drug has permanately screwed me up.

OK, i'll try to do this by comparison. Say its cold outside but you are used to it. You don't like it though and you get the Effexor jacket and wear it for a month. When you throw the jacket away because you don't like it, will it seem colder than it was before? Possibly, until you're body adjusts to the cold again.
On Effexor, your mind can be insulated against anxiety. I'm not sure how long it takes to adjust to being without again. Some people say that the depression symptoms return worse than ever. I might mutter under my breath that if the *depression returned when you stopped, obviously the Effexor was working*. But I understand that the side effects of Effexor can be too much for some folks. i'm one of the lucky ones.

I was on Effexor for years and recently went off. The medication is completely out of my system and I did suffer from anxiety while I was coming off it. I like the example above. That's pretty much what it's like. Effexor wasn't working, or so I thought, but when I went off it, it had to be doing SOMETHING because I was a mess when I stopped it. For so many reasons, I chose to try Lexapro. I really think that your symptoms will subside, just try to be patient and hang in there, can you ask your doc for something, if need be, to help in the meantime????
Hope this helps........> > I have been off of Effexor now for almost a month and have been experiencing severe anxiety, which was never present while on Effexor.I am just curious if this is something that is common when coming off of this drug?
