Currently on 2mg/day - take 1mg in morning and 1mg at bedtime. How about the following:
For one week take .5 mg/morning and 1mg/night
For 2nd week take .5 mg/morning and .5mg/night
For 3rd week take .25mg/morning and .5mg/night
For 4th week take nothing in am and .25mg/night
For 5th week take nothing in am and nothing in pm so I'd be off it after 4 weeks?!Is this too fast? HELP! Thanks.

25% a week is too fast. One month is too
fast.

Janelle,
I got off of only 1mg of Klonopin a few months ago... Why don't you try it this way?
For one week take .75 mg/morning and 1mg/night
For 2nd week take .75 mg/morning and .75mg/night
For 3rd week take .5mg/morning and .75mg/night
For 4th week take .5mg/morning and .5mg/night
For 5th week take .25mg/morning and .5mg/night
For 6th week take .25mg/morning and .25mg/night
For 7th week take 0/morning and .25mg/night
For 8th week no Klonopin at all.My pdoc allowed me to come up with my own taper schedule. He trusted me that I could do it. I reduced my intake .25mg per week and it worked like a charm. I was off in four weeks... Then again I was only on 1mg/day. So you might need two months to get off of Klonopin.
This is just a suggestion...
Blessings,

Your tapering schedule sounds very good - what dose were you on at the beginning and HOW did you get those reductions - did you have to cut pills?
I have 1mg pills, which I can cut in half (I have a pill cutter) but I'm not sure if I could cut it to get .75 mg.
How did you do it - cutting pills, liquid, what?
Thanks.

I just re-read your initial post (thanks so much for typing out that schedule; I wrote it down and will do it that way!) and I see that you mentioned you were on 1mg a day of Klonopin when you were aboe to come up with your own taper schedule. I want to do what you did - reduce my intake .25mg per week and be off in four weeks BUT I do realize that I'm on twice the dose you were, so I would theoretically need twice the time to taper!
As long as I can get off this one, if it takes two months so be it! Thanks again for your help.

Janelle,
No problem! People have helped me here immeasurably. I'm giving back.
Also from what I know about Klonopin tapering, if you need to go slower then go slower. The point is to reduce, not drive yourself batty.
Also I cut my 1mg pills in halves and then into quarters with a knife. If you need, I'm sure your doc would prescribe you the .5mg ones.
Blessings and Good Luck!

Unfortunately, I'm embroiled in the public health care system so going from 1mg tablets to .5mg tablets could become a big deal! So, I am planning to do EXACTLY what you suggested - cutting the 1's and working with them to get a 3/4 and then cutting them in half to get .5 and then cutting that in half to get .25! I happen to have a very good pill cutter having had to cut pills in the past! Thanks again for your advice and that wonderful taper schedule which I have written out (no printer at the moment) and plan to follow.
I will first ask my pdoc for a taper schedule; I have a feeling his will be faster than yours, but I'm going with yours unless his happens to be the same as yours!
This is the end of the thread.
