Remeron's crummy side effect

Posted by McPac on May 21, 2003, at 21:26:33

15 mg's only....just 15!....and I get this increased adrenaline crap that makes me feel edgy,nervous,jittery,increased heart beat.....7.5 mg's did NOT do this but 15 mg does.....45 mg was HORRENDOUS for this increased norepinephrine crap......anybody know if this stupid side effect will go away (how long maybe?)....if it doesn't go away soon I'll just use it at the lousy 7.5 dose....why do they have to ruin EVERY single med anymore by having them perform 10,000+ actions on the body.......the older meds that I used to take years ago had FAR fewer and FAR less severe side effects...this marketing hype has many convinced that today's glop of chemical swill is far superior with little side effects....YEAH RIGHT!.....

Remeron is only "cleaner" than the TCA's in its lack of anticholinergic side effects for the most part (so you don't have to worry about heart conduction probs. and dry mouth, etc.), otherwise it hits more receptors than just about another med out there.

True, however... these receptors are considered part of remeron's theraputic action, where as the anti-histaminic, anti-chollinergic and anti-adrenergic effects of TCAs were not. Although I suspect that they may have lent a helping hand - as many folks find anti-histamines/anti-chollinergics mildly anxiotylic/anti-depressant.

McPac - I would suspect that the effects will most certainly decrease in time. In fact, some adrenergic downregulation should take place which will contribute to the theraputic response. I think!

My girlfried just started Remeron, 15 mg. To correct the sexual side effects and add to the efficiacy of her 37.5 mg Paxil CR. She was really irritable the first day, have you noticed anything like that?

Messing with norepinephrine is not
for everyone; maybe you need a different
type of drug;

Squiggles

p.s. you sound upset, sorry.

Caleb, Thanks for your response!
I was "venting" when I wrote that post---the jittery edginess got the best of me, lol.

As for your question: "My girlfried just started Remeron, 15 mg. To correct the sexual side effects and add to the efficiacy of her 37.5 mg Paxil CR. She was really irritable the first day, have you noticed anything like that?"

YES I DID! I did NOT get that at 7.5 mg (not that I remember anyway) but I was irritable for the first few days on 15 mg. I also remember another poster (I think jrbecker) saying that some folks will get some irritability when starting Remeron...so, YES, it can happen. Take care!
