Where I can talk to someone? Today I go to a new doctor (last doctor was paternalizing me and I felt not at all involved in my healthcare) she gave me homework to do...she is looking to put me on either Effexor XR (I have depressions, anxiety and horrible headaches), Lexapro, or Paxil... she has asked me to look these up and it seems Effexor may be the one to try first. I was on Prozac for 8yrs and stopped it because a b/f I had didn't believe in meds and said I didn't need it... now of course the b/f of 2 1/2yrs is sorta gone (physically, but still hugely involved in destroying me mentally)we are 3,100 miles apart but still he can take me from a "normal moment" (wish I was bi-polar just to feel a mania!!!) to flat bottom depression in no time.
I don't know what to do... even if the new dr puts me on an antidepressent starting tomorrow how am I going to endure the next several weeks while it kicks in???
So anyhow, I sit here now and I've cried until I can barely see out of my eyelids. I have a birthday coming up next monday and I have been praying I won't have to acknowledge it. Only thing that keeps me from offing myself is my kids and the devestation it would be for them. But I tell you, it hurts SO BAD to be alive....

Shortcake, i dont know of any chats available, but i just had to respond to your post because it struck such a familiar note with me. My kids are grown now, but i often wonder if i would still be around if not for hanging on for their sake. I cant say it has been an easy road, but somehow i did hang in - mostly i think by talking to my doc and finding out i was understood and was not alone in feeling the way i did. Are you depending on meds alone or getting talk therapy too? Meds are absolutely necessary, no matter what well meaning friends and family may think. But please find someone to talk to - a professional. It will help you through the times like you are having now. And by all means keep posting here. You will be surprised how many know exactly what you are talking about. Take care and let us know how it is going. Melodie

Thank you so much for answering my post... I've felt so very alone. I did go to the doctor and she has given me effexor XR I'll start tomorrow... I have a horrible headache but all she said was take aleve... I guess she has forgotten already that brain anyerysms run very close in my family...my mother and her father both died of them my mom when she was 39. Her sister has just found out she has two double ones... I had a therapist but I missed an appt. and when I called the next day I talked to the receptionist and explained and she took my number and said she'd have her call me back... no one has. It doesn't matter though because I felt like nothin was getting accomplished anyhow...
I hope your days are going well.

There is, but (1) it's at Yahoo, rather than here, so you also need to register there and (2) you can't necessarily count on someone being there all the time...

Ditto!!!, I tried this chat once and not a soul was there. Tried again-same thing. So, I just said forget it. We are here on this board for you, but only through posts, and from what I can see, it is kinda like a chat, but slower. Many people respond to each other-it's great!:-)

Hi, What is the dose of Effexor-XR you are starting at? I'm on it also. It also helps with headaches in some. If brain aneurysms run very close in your family, have you talked to your doc about Mood Stabilizaers? Topomax, for one, is proving to work on migraines, and a lot of the seizure meds are being used in Bipolar (Lamictal) I remember when I went off the Lamictal the first time, I got debilataing headaches-I mean they were bad! When I went back on the Lamictal-I never get them now.
I wish you the best:-)and hang in!

She has started me the first week on 37.5mg the 2nd and 3rd week I'll be on 75mg and then she will assess me again.
I did get set up in Yahoo but I either had no one in the chat or else I got into a post area. Or more than likely I did something wrong ((grin)).
The headache is finally subsiding, more than likely because the crying is subsiding. I will keep in mind what you said about mood stabilizers and bring that up with her at next meeting.TYVM

YVW--Good :-) When I first started Effexor-XR, I started on 37.5 also, now I stay at 75mg-so far. Not to promote meds here BUT, for the headahces, if you get them really bad-also ask your doc about Maxalt. I tried Imitrex and Zomig and no go. I know that some migraine meds work on bad headaches, even though they are for migraines, and with very little, if any, side effects. For me anyways. Just a thought for ya.
I am glad to hear your headaches are subsiding though, and it always helps to get those feelings (crying) out of you-maybe it's the Efexor starting to do its job???
I wish you all the best:-)

Trust me. Most likely Yahoo did something wrong. But, there aren't a lot of people using the chat room (I like that) so the best way to find someone there is to arrange it. Post a note on the board (probably the Social board is best) asking if anyone wants to chat at x time. Don't forget to put in a time zone too since there are posters here from everywhere. If you wait around for awhile at the appointed time someone will often show up.
I used to use the chat feature a lot and I can tell you that your ego will take less of a beating tho if you try to keep the following things in mind.
If no one comes they may not have seen your note in time. Or, they may have been dying to talk to you and were unable to sign into Yahoo. Yahoo chat will seem to work fine on one day and not the next, and fine with some computers but not others, and I suspect phases of the moon may have something to do with it as well.
If you come into the chat room and see someone's name there but they do not answer you they probably wandered away from their computer and therefore don't know you are there. It's not a nice thing to do but everyone forgets now and then. Once and awhile yahoo may also make the stuff that you type disappear before they appear on the other persons screen. What you see on your screen is NOT a copy of what they see. If they aren't answering you they probably don't know that you are saying something.
If someone just disappears from the chat room without saying good bye - they are not mad about whatever you just said. They aren't so distraught that you need to rush out and call 911. Most likely they were just disconnected by the infamous Yahoo again. They'll probably come back if Yahoo permits it but sometimes yahoo doesn't. (And, of course, by extension if you are mad about something you need to say so - because if you just leave everyone will think you were just disconnected.)
Believe it or not it really can be fun despite the hassles. Good luck.

I have done the chat thing too, I would be interested in yahoo again, but I would have to sign up again. I think it would be wonderful if we could set a time, etc. to do this!!!
Yep, it can be so fun and so helpful if we all made it work:-) Anyone interested???

I have a week and a half before school starts again for me, then I will be extremely busy-all 400-500 level courses. I would love to hear anyone else's view on this. Life does get busy and it may not be possible.
I think it would be great though. We'll see......

Hey there, ya know-I've got a headache too-and I was just about to take an Alleve-grand lol
I'm in California PST so I will log on at 5pm. Do you know the exact site that will take me right into the chat?? I completed my registration and all but I'm wondering how to get into it.
**Also, are you taking your Effexor in the morning? I felt the exact same way you do-I couldn't get my brain to shut down at night to sleep, so now I take the Effexor at night-seems to work well, but I think my headaches are definately due to the Lamictal right now-It's been 3 weeks back on it I hope they'll pass.
Hope to hear from ya! and "see" you tonight
Take care of you and take it easy:-)

Hi, "jane d" or "Dinah",
I used the link, but do either of you know a link that will take me exactly to the chat room tonight or what or where I look? I live in California and am on PST, so I will look for the chat at 5pm. Any info on how I get to this chat please? I went to the link here and everything is good to go, I just don't know where to actually get into the chat?
Thanks, Kristen:-)

Look to the left side of the page that link brings you to. There is a list of options, including "chat". Just click on that. It will bring you to the chat room. Your name should show up on the right in the list of chatters.
