Going mad: Nordette, Cipramil, Xanax, pot, booze

Posted by Alara on March 13, 2003, at 2:04:30

Cipramil and Xanax were working great. Then my doctor asked me to wean off my 1.25mg of Xanax while I was working 11 hour stressful days..WAs also continuing to lay low on the alcohol (only 3-4 std drinks a night) Came home for weeks with a burning stomach and a head which felt like a vice was attached. The stress built up. Boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend) came over on the weekend and gave me hydro pot. Gave me a much needed break from my feelings. Meanwhile I restarted Nordette and have plunged into a deep depression. I was crying at work today and they have pulled work away from me because all of a sudden I can't cope. Once upon a time I was a capable person. Now I'm just a loser.
Drowning my sorrows in a bottle of Baileys with beer for backup tonight. I'd rather go to work with a hangover than to spend another night feeling like the world's most pathetic person.
Just when everything seems to be going OK, life deals a couple of blows and you end up back where you started.
thank god I'm drunk!

My daily dose of Xanax was only 0.75mg.

Ohh man..the anti-benzo attitude of doctors once again has likely caused some of your problem. If the Xanax was working great, they should have stuck with it.

OK...try to hold on as strong as you can, and get to either your or another pdoc to either restart Xanax, or go onto another longer acting benzo like clonazepam. And if for some reason you have to get off any benzo again, tell doc you want to do it slowly.

Best wishes to you,
Jay

Thanks, Jay. The Xanax was really helping. I wasn't abusing it and (combined with Cipramil) was the only reason that I was able to function and work and get a resonable night's sleep. Now that I'm coming off it I'm sinking into a depression fast. My head feels as though it's about to explode and I feel sick to the stomach from worrying about work. I am having uncontrollable crying spells and getting through the day with a feeling of unreality that I haven't experienced in years.
Xanax was the only reason I was ever able to cut down on drinking. Surely most doctors would prefer that their patients take 0.75mg of Xanax a day than have them drink themselves to their graves!
