Is weight gain dose dependent?

Posted by Rainbowlight on February 24, 2003, at 19:31:55

I am wondering if the dosage of a drug (in my case Remeron) would make a difference in the weight gain issue. Say, would taking 5 mgs. vs. 15 mgs. make any difference?

I think the answer is yes, it is dose dependent, but nobody knows exactly how things will go at a particular dose.

With TCA's, there is a definite correspondence between dose and amount of weight gained. Someone on 25mg/day of Elavil will gain weight, but if that same person goes to 50 mg they will gain more/faster, etc.

But is there a dose, say 5mg or 10 mg where they will not gain at all? If you find out, please let us know because I'd love to take Remeron or Doxepin for sleep and not gain weight.

I'm on Remeron. I gained 20 lbs fairly quickly after starting it (30 mg.) Then increased to 45 mg. and then again to 60 mg. but my weight has not gone up any more.

I had some bad side effects on Remeron. I DID gain weight, and it made my joints hurt beyond unbearable, BUT, I knew a girl who went on it and it did wonders for her physical pain only. Can I ask what your diagnosis is? For how long? And what meds you are currently taking or what has worked well for you?
