i am trying so hard to be a wife to my husband,
i had sex with him last night-2nd time in 8 months.
thought wellbutrin would help(3rd month).
was better on effexor...but it made me lose my mind.
anyone felt wellbutrin was causing sexual side effects?
thanks

Hi there,
Generally Wellbutrin is beneficial for sex, but there are cases where it has the opposite effect. It had the opposite effect with me.
When I tried Wellbutrin, it gave me anorgasmia worse than SSRIs. Numb and no desire. Go figure. Wellbutrin gave me lots of negative sexual side effects.
Have you tried Prozac? It can tend to have fewer sexual side effects than the other SSRIs. Some women even report hypersexuality on Prozac. A dose of 10mg to 20mg might be worth trying instead of Effexor or Wellbutrin. Any higher than 20mg though and you will probably see those same sexual side effects again.
A real trick with Prozac though is to add a little Zyprexa at the same time, like 2.5mg to 5mg. This combination often works very well in people who have not done well with several other trials. It's great for amplifying the antidepressant effect strongly, speeding up the effect to within one week usually, it's great for sleep, it goes real well with Prozac, and it's either neutral or beneficial for sex. The only drawback is a tendency for weight gain in the first three months, which often subsides on its own or with dieting changes.
I take both Prozac and Zyprexa. I'm doing well. And I have no negative sexual side effects. I have a lot of faith in this combination and that is why I have suggested it.

i was on both effexor and wellbutrin at the same time for almost a year and i had virtually no libido. my hubby thought he was going to die due to lack of sex, poor thing. recently, i was tapered off the effexor and replaced with lexapro and still taking wellbutrin. libido returned with orgasms to boot! loved prozac but can't take it as for it induced mania (i am bipolar). good luck and tell your hubby that he's not alone! ;-)

My husband's p-doc discontinued his Wellbutrin 3 days ago as my husband thinks it is causing performance problems that started with effexor. He is better on Wellbutrin than he was on effexor but after 2 1/2 months he is not normal. He has performance problems and lack of desire. He was only on 150 mg a day and it did not give him energy or any beneficial effects. The p-doc does not believe it is Wellbutrin but he decided the only way to test my husband's theory is to take him off of it. Effexor essentially chemically castrated him. It was horrible.

well, sorry to say libido was short-lived but i am still hopeful since i am trying a new muscle relaxant this week. pdoc said she might go up on both wellbutrin and lexapro next couple weeks, too. i am very grateful for all my docs (including gastro, rheum), they are all working together with my meds to find what will piece me back together. sorry i won't be around for a while, i will be taking care of elderly mom-in-law with possible cancer. wish me luck. peace.
This is the end of the thread.
