Just want to share with anyone who may be suffering from insomnia and related anxiety: For the past few days, I've been taking 5 mg of Remeron (1/2 pill) along with a small bit of clonazepam. For me, this is an incredible sleep cocktail, especially since the dose is so low and the side-effects so minimal. Who knows, I may even be able to stop the clonazepam altogether if I want. When I get a really good night's sleep, my anxiety stays pretty much under control. I'm hoping the drug will continue to remain effective because I think I'll be needing a sleep aid for many years to come. Happy New Year to all.

Not sure, but I think the smallest Remeron pill is 15mg, so 1/2 a pill would be 7.5 mg, not 5 mg.
Anyway, I've been thinking about trying this ultra low dose Remeron thing for sleep for a long time.
The reason I haven't is the reputation of Remeron for weight gain in many people. I'e heard that the weight gain is less of a problem at higher doses, but I wonder if there is also a low end dose where it is not problematic?
What has your experience been?
How much clonazepam do you take?

I have found it extremely effective in
eliminating insommnia of Celexa. I take just
a fraction of a pill, perhaps only about 2-3mg
and im out like a light. It is a 5ht-2 antagonist which is the receptor
that proportedly causes insommnia of the ssris.
It does leave me a little irritable in the morning, but no major change in appetite.

Don't know yet if I'll gain weight...I think I'll have to keep exercising and not give in to every little hunger pang. I'm currently taking 1/3 of a 15 mg pill (i.e. 5 mg). I'm also taking .5 mg clonazepam. I may try to eliminate the clono if the remeron continues to work well. In any case, I'm not going to worry about it...just happy to be feeling a bit better after six years of constant suffering.

Remeron can indeed be a great sleep med. I took half a tab a night for over a year.
For me, Remeron was great for initiating sleep. It would knock me out reliably in about 30 minutes. But the quality of my sleep never seemed very good. I mean, I slept sound, but didn't feel like I had. It was just my guess, but I figured it was the norepinephrine boosting effect of Remeron that lowered my sleep quality.
Today I take Zyprexa instead. I am much happier with Zyprexa than Remeron. Remeron made me feel too "fuzzy", while Zyprexa feels more "open". Remeron always had that early morning hangover feeling. But not with Zyprexa. Zyprexa does not knock me out like Remeron did, but once I am asleep I stay asleep and when I wake I feel like I had good sleep.
For sleep meds and all around psychiatric meds, I strongly favor Zyprexa. It's just my personal opinion, but I must admit there are a whole lot more doctors and patients finding success stories with Zyprexa than Remeron.
