I am currently trying to get off of Effexor. I was on Zoloft and went to a psychiatrist to try to get off of the anti-depressant, but they persuaded me that I should try Effexor. It's strange how they hand out these drugs like some kind of candy(by the way). I went back complaining about major headaches and she finally told me that I should go to the doctor and gave me lower dosages, eventually being off of it completely until I figure what is going on with my headaches. So here I am with 1 week of Effexor pills left that are 37.5 mg.
Right now I am basically experiencing a feeling of some sort of brain spasms. I get really frusturated because I get them when I'm driving and they usually come on at the end of the day, especially in cold weather I have noticed. I'm really worried that this will never go away. It's a strange and annoying feeling. I can't really describe it. It is like feeling dizzy, but only for a split second. It kinda goes throughout your head. I don't know what to call it, but brain spasms I guess. After this, I don't think I will ever go back to anti-depressants. I have been on Zoloft for 2 yrs and Effexor for only a couple of months. I'd rather deal with my anxiety and accept it as just my personality and that's just the way I am and life just has it's little hurdles. I can't always use anti-drepressants as a crutch. What worries me is that more and more of the population are using these drugs like it's not big deal. Pharmacist are handing it out like hotcakes. I have a real problem with this obviously. Thanks for your time and live well.

Sorry about the effexor withdrawal. It will pass.
As to the anxiety, there is no reason for you to "just live with it". If you are generally pharmaceutal averse, try cognitive behavioral therapy. It is helpful for many people with mild to moderate anxiety disorders. If you aren't pharmaceutical averse try benzos. They have a long positive track record, and you'll be able to tell if they are helpful very quickly, often with the first dose.
Many doctors use ADs as their frontline choice for treating anxiety disorders. This is wrong-headed. Benzos have been shown time and again to be more effective than ADs for treating anxiety disorders.
Feel better,
Britt

Hey, thanks for the info. I have one week left until I am completely off of it. Right now I'm experiencing a lot of weird moodiness, but the "brain spasms" have gotten a little better. Last night it was hard for me to sleep. I was up till 5 am. Can't wait to get this drug out of my system. I also get the scared feeling or rush for no reason. Is that an unusual thing? I feel effexor has numbed by feelings and now I am extra sensitive to my surroundings now. Strange.
