Hi--:) I'm trying regiment of zoloft and dexedrine but the dexedrine seems to lose it effect somewhat when combined with an ssri -has anyone tried adding l-deprenyl at 10mgs a day to dexedrine. I'm aware of the fact that l-deprenyl must be kept at 10mgs a day or it will begin to effect serotonin thus risking the serotonin syndrome. ok thanks !!! :)

Vince,

Whereas before it would poop out ofter about 3 days, leaving me wrung out and irritable, it now gives me a smooth effect (one dosage of 40mg. lasts about 12hours), that I can take every day- giving me energy, concentration, motivation and social confidence.

But, at this point, at least, I will have to say that it is a bit of a mystery. Presumable, amphetamine induces hyperglutaminergic activity, which incuces the tolerance, which the memantne is able to prevent by limiting glutaminergic activity to within physiologically safe bounds.

> Also memantine is seemingly effective for tardive dyskinsia (see patent referred to above). Also effective as a adjunct mood stabilizer to valporate acid (sp?) and possibly lamotrigine.

Hey, Dennison, you're way off track here, please let me fill you in. L-deprenyl is an old term for the drug selegiline. It's an MAO inhibitor like Nardil and Parnate, selective only for MAO-B at 10 mg or less. Combining SSRI's with MAOIs of any kind is a recipe for frying your brain, which is pretty much what seratonin syndrome is. Very very bad idea.
There are a number of websites selling selegiline as l-deprenyl and touting it as a sexual aid, stimulant, fountain of youth miracle pill, ect. and totally full of it. These are scams from outside the US and so if this is where you got the idea forget it. Selegiline is used for the treatment of Parkinsons at 5 or 10 mg daily, and is a good antidepressent at doses of 15 to 30 mg, but requires the full MAOI lifestyle at those doses. Special diet et al. It metabolizes to l-amphetamine and l-methamphetamine, but I'm on it and it's not as speedy as it may sound.
You either need more SSRI or dexadrine, or try another type of speed, or just take the plunge and go to Parnate. I promise you don't want to be doing selegiline and SSRI cocktails. I don't care what you read somewhere about this being OK, it's way too risky. And messy- mixing a lot of types of speed and speed metabolites can get you into some ugly side effects. Read up on MAOIs, they all warn against mixing with other stimulants. I've been on them all and love them, but the warnings are no bull. You can get into scary and even lethal cardiac trouble. Or stroke out.
Talk to you doc about this. There are plenty of better options.missliz

>I'm currently taking 5mg Deprenyl, 1500mg L-Phenylalanine, and 20mg Adderall and it's working wonders for me and no side effects. The Deprenyl definitely poteniates the Adderall - I used to have to take 60mg Adderall for it to have any effect. Good luck and if you do add the Dexedrine, start at very low dosages because the Deprenyl will potentiate it...

Hi Gadu thnx for the response your info is right on. I'm very familiar with your regiment l-deprenyl plus phenylalanine. I have the Fischer study in whole from years ago that showed this to be a potent antidepressant. I can't find it right at the moment but it's here amongst my folders I'll find it . Anyway on the phenylalaine issue I presume you take that it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning?........................................Also how quickly did you perceive a response on your regiment(5mg deprenyl)+ (1500mg phenylalanine)+ (20mg Adderall). My pdoc gives me 25mgs dexedrine daily so my regiment would be essentially similiar to yours. I already have both the phenylalanine capsules and l-deprenyl 5mg capsules. I'll be starting my regiment today, zoloft I discontinued wasn't doing a darn thing. Thnx --Hope to heard from you :):)
