Duration of Effexor withdrawal

Posted by nmk on October 16, 2002, at 20:27:58

I have been off Effexor for approx. two weeks. The severe nausea, dizziness are finally subsiding yet I still have periods throughout the day when I can't stop crying. From reading similar posts, I know the crying and return of the depression is common but I am wondering when the mood swings throughout the day will start to lessen.

I know exactly what you're going through. I have no clue either. I hope it's soon though. These mood swings are doing very bad things to my GPA, roomate, boyfriend, and parents. How long have you been having these withdrawl symptoms. My dr. recommended that I switch to Prozac and something for my A.D.D. because I've been having problems with the effexor. You may want to talk to your doc about switching you. I've been told that the side effects won't be as bad when I switch to the Prozac(we'll see about that!!!) on saturday. Hope that this helps some.

I have been having the withdrawal symptoms for about 2 weeks and in the meantime, I have tried Lexapro (made me too nauseuos) and now am back on Zoloft. I am very frightened that the depression is never going to subside and am overwhelmed with trying to deal with this while raising three kids and holding down a full-time job. How long have you been off the effexor? Is the depression constant for you or does it come and go? Hang in there and keep me posted.

> Well I haven't been taking Effexor that long, I think about 7 weeks total. My body is so sensetive to new meds and caffine. I mean I can have a red bull and be hyper the entire day. Talk about driving the people that I love up the wall!! My depression is just moderate. It comes and goes. But I think part of that is due just to the stress of a 16 hr college load. Many of my friends are taking 12 hrs some are taking 14. I'm one of three people that I know taking this many hours. How old are your kids? I haven't stopped taking the effexor, I won't take it Saturday, because that's when I start the prozac. Have you had any problems with weight gain? I'm 5' so any weight gain is very noticable on me. I can't take the diet pills that are OTC because they make me jittery!! Let me know how you're doing.
