Have any of your psych doctors advocated using exercise, especially walking, to help your depresssion.
Thanks,

My GP recommends 5 days of exercise, 30 minutes per day if possible. Some other posters stated that excerise enhanced the effects of the AD they were taking (not sure if you're on any?).

Yes, my p-doc recommends vigorous excersise to go along with meds. Reportedly it can be just as effective as meds. Trouble is it can be hard enough to get out of bed much less into an excersise program. I have started a walking program since meds got me into the land of the living. Can't really say if it improved my depression, but i am getting more fit so it cant hurt, that is for sure.

I was reading the reports too. Thats why I posted.
The thing is, I used to exercise alot in high school and it didn't seem to help my depression then. So I don't know why it would be any different now.

I know it's easy to look for "cures" because we all want the quick and fast, but some things simple create stepping stones for us to climb out through a troubles... for instance, you'd never be able to take a med if you never got any sleep, because you'd be too tired to have any desire to.
So sleep does enable us to do things like go to our doctor's appointments and keep our lives in order, and the more efficient we make our sleep the more it can help us help ourselves... Exercising won't decrease your need for sleep, but it will raise its quality.
Think of sleep and exercise as cream and sugar. Alone it's not going to fulfill you, but you can add it to your coffee (life) and it makes it easier to swallow things.

Exercise can in fact be wonderful, but this board is supposed to focus on medication, so I'd like any further follow-ups to be redirected to Psycho-Social-Babble, thanks.
Bob
PS: And any follow-ups regarding posting policies to be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration.
