conversion disorder and DID

Posted by Anne/eg on September 12, 2002, at 12:03:35

I was in an accident in feb. 2002 when the ceiling fell on my head while I was sleeping. I was dx'd with a concussion but I kept having these "episodes". I had a gran mal seizure several weeks ago. I was giving dilantin and found that my levels were toxic. My levels are lower now. I saw a neuropsychologist right after my dilantin levels were coming down. I only told him I was discociative and did not disclose my dx of DID. And I have been seeing the same pdoc for over 6yrs. Also the neuropdoc's first name is the same name of my main perp. After two days of testing, he has said I am inconsistant. He does agree I do have a head injury but has also said I have eliments of conversion. Can this be due to the fact I am DID and I did not tell him? Does this mean there is nothing wrong with me cause it's all in my head?
Also during this time my PCP found out after 10 yrs of telling her about my stomach problems, I have h-pylori. So, I am having a difficult time believing much of what any of these docs are saying.

I have a diagnosis of DD-NOS and I used to get this all the time. I've also had head injuries and seizures (gran mal), with normal EEGs (thank God, I didn't want to lose my driver's license). What I've done is to have a team of physicians who communicate regularly to each other- psychiatrist, neurologist, psychologist and internist. I feel they have taken my physical symptoms seriously and have always ordered the proper tests. It's much more difficult with a head injury though, despite numerous MRIs, EEGs, glucose testing- I was hypoglycemic and that accounted for one seizure, it's really difficult to discount epilepsy if you've had multiple seizures. Are you taking an AED now? Just because he mentioned elements of conversion doesn't mean a real problem doesn't exist. If you want to discuss this further, you can try posting on Psycho-Psycho Babble and get more responses. take care, judy

Thanks Judy. This is my first time here and I thought I was over there. lol. and i'm not sure if I am even replying to your post right but we'll see when I click submit. I am not sure what AED is? I take alot of meds.
Daily doses are: Serzone 300mg, Klonapin 1mg, Dilantin 400mg, Norvasc 5mg, and bout 6 alieve. I am taking Prevacid 60mg, Biaxin 1000 mg and Trimox 1000mg a day for the h-pylori. I also have Migratine, Ativan, Ambien, Tynenol 3, and Albuterol PRN. I'll try reposting over on the other board.

Hi,
You did great and welcome to the board. It's drugs here, so I'll keep it to that subject. AED= Anti-Epilepsy Drugs, so I see your dilantin and klonopin- your neuro must feel you have epilepsy. Conversion symptoms are more like headaches, back pain and stomach pains. But like you found out with your infection, you can't (and your dr.) ignore any symptoms. Are your docs communicating to each other? I see a lot of drugs, and sometimes shrinks just write out their scripts regardless of what else you're taking (and I've had drug interactions that way). I made my Internist the keeper of the drug list :-), because I figured he would know the most about meds. Sorry about the rambling, I guess my question is are your docs communicating about your symptoms? take care, judy

Hi Judy. Thanks for the help. I only take the dilantin for seizures. I have taken Klonapin for six years for panic attacks but usually a lower dose. The Klonapin keeps them under control. My pharmacist keeps the list of all the drugs and my pdoc talks to him. All of my docs have my permission to talk to each other but... my PCP does not like to talk to my pdoc and they do not like when they have to send their dx's and lab results to him. So I am looking for a new PCP. My pdoc is the one who is trying to get everyone to communincate. This is the first time I have ever had to deal with the health care system. It bites. I have decided to stop the Norvasc because my blood pressure is only high when I am upset. Kinda weird it's not my pdoc pushing drugs but my PCP.
