I have been on Effexor XR 150mg daily and 10 mg of Zyprexa in the evening. I seem to be much calmer and mood leveled off. I am a fitness buff and watch what I eat. I seem to be gaining weight anyway. I know this is a side effect from the Zyprexa. Also, my motivation seems to have lessened. Does anyone have long term with this combination? Is this progressive? Why the weight gain? Does the Zyprexa actually slow down the metabolism? As I have read in an earlier post.
Does anyone have a problem with energy/motivation using Zyprexa? Thanks

> Does anyone have a problem with energy/motivation using Zyprexa? Thanksyeah i take 5 mg and in the beginning my motivation lessened which i thought was great.. because i couldn't concentrate on just one task till i took zyprexa.... unfortunately after about a week my motivation came back (maybe it was just sedation?) and my doc increased my (stimulating) antidepressant so who knows
maybe your doc thinks it's a good thing to have less motivation? like sure maybe you won't be as motivated at some tasks, but it may help you concentrate on one thing better ???
as for weight gain... i dunno about metabolism ... i personally just find myself hungrier... which is cool cuz it makes eating more fun ! i've only gained about 5 or 6 pounds though so i can't complain

I found my problem with Zyprexa was that especialy right after taking it I would eat alot uncontrolably. Often while I was taking Zyprex I would indulge a lot in anything, food, spirits, ciggarettes, drugs, you name it.

Sorry again, All that stuff I said about indulging was real bad on the 10mg (Zyprexa), When I reduced to 5mg I started losing weight, very easy compared to the 10mg. It wasn't bad the compulsion, on the 5mg. Try 5 its better.

I was on that combo for a while and when zyprexa was added it significantly helped my depression and anxiety, and cleared my head. As for weight gain, I think the major cause is increased appetite but zyprexa does interfere with some metabolic proccesses which also probably contribute. My best advice is to watch what you eat and exercise from the get go, cause it has been hard for me to lose the weight.

I take 17.5 mg of zyprexa for schizophrenia. I have problems with motivation. I'm not sure if the motivation problems are because of the Zyprexa or the illness. I've gained 13 lbs. I always feel hungry.

oh.... did you just start? how bad is your motivation? .... i tended to find it harder to think about things, and this was a blessing... as it kept me from running around all the time ... it also seemed to make things more interesting as my mind slowed down which was also kind of nice ......
i hope you are feeling better
