For various reasons, our government is now prohibiting access to this medication through FDA pressure of international OP's.
And, in advance of final FDA approval of this unique Opioid as an addiction treatment therapy (within our Lifetime, if we're lucky), Buprenorphine may be Re-scheduled from Class V to CIII, CII or even CI, due to it's "Abuse Potential".
Say goodbye to one of the most promising anti-depressant, and Opioid Detox Meds, available!

It is still possible to get Bup IF you can get a presription, right, Cisco? As I understand, it's scheduled "lightly" enough (at least now) such that any MD or psychiatrist can prescribe it for any reason they want. The "special training program" that docs have to go through to prescribe it for addicition therapy doesn't prevent them from prescribing it for other reasons (if they have the guts and the imagination). Personally, given that the sublingual "Subutext (Sp?)" version of Bup doesn't seem to work so well, I think a promising way to take it, since it comes in an injection liquid that apparently is destroyed in the digestive tract, is to mix it with DMSO gel. Just break open the ampule, and mix it yourself, and rub it on. I read that that's been tried with morphine for pain relief, and works well. I think the schedule that it's on now even allows for 5 refills. I certainly sympathize with your annoyance with the government. I truly wish this REALLY was a free country, where the choice of the means of the pursuit of happiness was left to the individual. Our government encourages only ONE way to pursue happiness: WORK-SPEND-CONSUME.

velaguff,
Off topic. . . BUT
I absolutely *LOVE* what you said in your last sentence:
Our government encourages only ONE way to pursue happiness: WORK-SPEND-CONSUME.
I'll give ya credit for it if I ever use it in a bumper sticker and make my first million!

Yes, the med-world is changing. I'm not so sure it's the FDA or other Gov. agencies as much as it is the insurance companies not wanting to pay for all the nice little pills. Sorry, but I have to blame the media wave the changed a few years ago allowing TV and other media advertising of "other" meds. Case in point: I used to take Ambien about 6 or 7 years ago. Took it nightly for several years. Now my insurance company says:
"Oh my, we're concerned about your health, you can only get this for 30 days per year unless your MD writes a nice letter." So, no more Ambien for me, because how many MDs want to script contradictory to FDA or AMA guidelines. Same problem with pain meds. Modern science:archaic application.

Are you just assuming your doc will not or have you asked ?
Your HMO is not your doc.

A bit off topic: but is buprenorphine used more by psych docs for depression "nowadays?" does it actually work? or is it a false "high" ? Is it something someone could actually talk to one's psychdoc about and be taken seriously? Or would one be laughed at and/or labled as an drug-seeking depressive addict? Because, I'd love to have a serious conversation with my doc about this use of opioids for treatment resistant depression.
I mean y'all know how weird and hypocritical SOME psychdocs can be. I had one once who went on and on about how he would never in a million years perscribe even one pill of a benzo because of how "terrible and addictive" they are and "everyone becomes on addict on benzos..." and then he proceeded to write me a perscription for two months of Adderall. Talk about crazytalk.
This is the end of the thread.
