I have taken Paxil for 7+ years for Panic Disorder. Recently I switched to Celexa, it is good but not getting rid of all the anxiety. I was taking 40mg of Paxil and I just got boosted up to 60mg of Celexa. I hope that this increase works.
Paxil worked but the side effects, diminshed sex drive and tiredness are too much. I have been happy with Celexa and hope the increase in dosage works.
Does anyone have any similar stories? or something to add?
Thanks,
jon

I just want to add a tad of mine.
Paxil is the most potent SSRI. Celexa, the most selective SSRI. If you were taking 40 mg of Paxil then chance you need 60 or even 80 mg of Celexa to get the same effect.
At this dosage, almost everybody gets the infamous sexual side effects and the dreaded tiredness.
If you want to get rid of these side effects, you then begin the infinit loop of the medecine add-on. Before falling in this loop, i would suggest you take a lower dose of Celexa and add a tiny dose of benzo (klonopin, xanax). That might works quickly and fairly.
Good luck.

Are you saying that celexa has not so far given you the dreaded sexual side effects? All SSRIs have given me that (actually I took prozac so long ago that I can't remember if it did or not) and celexa is on the try-next list in my doctor's file folder. I'd hate to be a eunuch again. I take nortriptyline now which works great except for some troublesome side effects, sexual ones thankfully not included.

I get up in the morning with a 'woody'. I have my sex drive back and I am not tired. I need to take klonopin (.5 x 3)for residual anxiety, but I can almost go without it.
Celexa has reduced sexual side effects in me. It is the SSRI with the least sexual side effects. I am sure that this point can be argued, but I am happy with it. I am hoping the higher dose does not change this?
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I have not had decreased sexual effects yet. I am hoping that I don't. I already take .5 x 3 of Klonopin. I can stand some anxiety in order to be 'shagadelic'. Yeah Baby!
If the side-effects return I'll lower my dose. Eventually I want to get some Lexapro when it comes out since it is Celexa with some engineering to get rid of the side-effects.
I hope your wrong about the side effects. I like feeling horny again. I can also make it work on Paxil, but it is much more enjoyable when you want to screw your wife.

I am not so afraid to take celexa now.
It works the same way for females, too. Actually, on zoloft and paxil I was all too happy to jump on the boyfriend (now husband) but couldn't um... get any satisfaction. It's a dreadful way to conduct a sex life. I guess it's better than not wanting to do anything but...
I hope I have your good luck if/when I do try the legendary "no-sex-a" and hopefully that nickname will be undeserved.

In reply to thanks, this sounds promising, posted by bubblegumchewer on August 3, 2002, at 9:48:04
I am pretty sure that it will work for you. I guess from all the Lexapro chatter that it will be coming out soon. Sex for me is defnitely better on Celexa.
Sorry to all the ladies for being possibly vulgar, using the word 'screw'. I am trying to be open, but I can see how that might be offensive. I will watch my words more closely.
