You will be knocked out the first couple times that you take it. I had to wake myself up with a cup of coffee (I usually don't drink coffee in the morning). I've been taking 7.5mg for about a month now, and I can stay up in spite of the Remeron if I really want to. I can't think quite as clearly, but if you are familiar with alcohol and benzo's, it's nothing like that. I can actually get out of bed more easily now that before. Alcohol sort of defeats the purpose of the Remeron; it is certainly a depressing drug. Very moderate alcohol may be ok (1-2 drinks); ask your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. You shouldn't need Xanax or clonazapam on Remeron; the Remeron should take care of any anxiety problems that you may have. If it doesn't, you could raise the dose up to 15mg after two to three weeks. By that time, the larger dose won't have you knocked out as hard.

is it possible to stay up and dont sleep if you really want to?or is it like general anesthesia or something like that?i get scared of the feeling that im not in control of my sleep and the feeling that if i get too heavily asleep i could not wake up anymore.thats almost the only fear i got from starting remeron, otherwise it sounds like a reliable drug.also i usually drink alcohol and im preoccupied of possible interactions.is it as dangerous as mixing alcohol with benzos or worse?seeing it from my experience you would have to overdose benzos and mix it with tons of alcohol to have a fatal result.maybe alcohol and remeron are not supposed to be mixed mostly because they could potentiate each other and make the alcohol get you twice as fast and therefore be dangerous if youre driving a car or operating machinery or doing something that needs a lot of concentration.could this be the case or it is really dangerous to the point that it can be fatal?

Remeron doesn't work for all patients with regards to anxiety. Only a benzo has helped with mine and at that, it's just barely holding it at bay.

Remeron has an activating effect that supposedly kicks in after a week or so. From what I've heard, it can actually be less sedating at higher dosages (30, 45) than at lower ones. My doc started me at 30 because of that, and the sedation hasn't been that much of a problem, except for the first day.
