You will be knocked out the first couple times that you take it. I had to wake myself up with a cup of coffee (I usually don't drink coffee in the morning). I've been taking 7.5mg for about a month now, and I can stay up in spite of the Remeron if I really want to. I can't think quite as clearly, but if you are familiar with alcohol and benzo's, it's nothing like that. I can actually get out of bed more easily now that before. Alcohol sort of defeats the purpose of the Remeron; it is certainly a depressing drug. Very moderate alcohol may be ok (1-2 drinks); ask your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. You shouldn't need Xanax or clonazapam on Remeron; the Remeron should take care of any anxiety problems that you may have. If it doesn't, you could raise the dose up to 15mg after two to three weeks. By that time, the larger dose won't have you knocked out as hard.
