After four weeks at 180 mg of Prozac, I have just suffered a major setback. Something on my job triggered it -- but still I feel almost as bad as a did before I ever took Prozac. I have that horrible unrelenting pain in my heart, the emotionally sick pit in my stomach and my head is pounding. I cry all the time and just don't know if I will make it through another day of work. Do I need to augment my medication regimen or switch to something else entirely!! Please help, I am really feeling quite down. Thank you.

Sarahmarie, I've answered your e-mail but I've been thinking a little further today. If, at 180mg of Prozac, you're feeling only slightly better than without the Prozac, it may be better to switch over to something else completely. There's many people that SSRIs don't help at all. Also, many others in which one SSRI has no effect but another may. It seems to be different case for practically every one on how our body makes use of a medication.

Sarahmarie,
That is a pretty name. I have a grandaughter named Sarahkate. Hope today goes better for you.
The only medication that has helped me with the very same symptoms you describe is Klonopin (.5mg)with a little Celexa (10-20mg). I get more benefit from the Klonopin than any AD. I haven't followed any of your posts (if they exist) so this may be irrevelant. But wanted you to know what has helped me. Are you taking anything else with the Prozac and how long have you been on it? JaneB

>Several years ago I was taking .5 mg. Klonopin in combination with Zoloft. Currently, I take 1mg Lorazepam three times per day and as of yesterday the Prozac was bumped up to 200 mg. I also take 50 mg. Trazadone at night for sleep. I am concerned that I may have to go off of the Prozac to something else entirely. Therapy was difficult for me last evening. I feel okay at the moment, but I am on the verge of tears. Fortunately, I work a shorter day today. Thank you for your post.

Have you had a general health checkup and check of thyroid and cortisol in the last six months? Maybe the depression has worsened because of illness -- new depression when someone was previously well controlled on a medication could mean you're physically sick in some subtle way.

> SarahMarieHi. I have heard of, and experienced myself, the prozac blues- where it stops working and you feel worse than ever. Athough in your case- since you were on prozac such a short time- it just may not be working for you and you either need another a/d, or you need to stop taking another med that you are also taking with the prozac. For me, prozac worked very well, then just stopped. I felt worse than ever. At that point my Dr. wanted to up my meds, but I insisted on switching to another a/d and that really helped me. Another thing, some people are much more sensitive, and react differently to the meds when there is more than one med taken. When I was on Buspar for anxiety I was OK, when I was on prozac alone I was OK. But when I was on Prozac and Buspar together there was some reaction in my body that made me miserable. Crying, sobbing uncontrollable sadness. I was more depressed when my anti-anxiety med was paired up with an a/d. Each of us is different. Some of us have strange reactions to a combo of meds.
