I have been on 20mg Celexa since October to assist with sleeping problems (I work midnights). I am looking to be medication free and deal with life without drugs. Please advise the best way to withdraw from 20mg and what to expect.
Thank you

The best way to "withdraw" from any AD is to do so gradually. If you have to, break the pills in half.
Why you are taking Celexa for sleep I don't know There are more effective ADs for that, e.g., Desyrel, Serzone, Rameron(low doses).I was able to stop taking Celexa "cold turkey" with no problems. You may want to try it that way first. If you have problems, take a half dose of Celexa for a few days, then try again. etc.

I can't recall but am thinking celexa was a capsule? There is a 10 mg version available. You will want to taper over a couple of months, going to every other day at the end, etc. Celexa is not so bad for withdrawal as paxil or effexor so if you don't go cold turkey you shouldn't have any odd reactions.

HI,
Withdrawing from Celexa was relatively easy compared to my current withdrawal process from Effexor! You're only on 20 mg, so it shouldn't feel too drastic...I'd do it gradually, as others have said. I'm on my 7th or 8th week of Effexor withdrawal (if I don't take 1.5 mg a day, I feel horrible), but I was able to withdraw in about two weeksa from Celexa with almost no side effects!
Good luck,
Sarah

I am currently going thru withdrawals for celexa 40mg. I have been on this dose for about a year now. Unfortunatly I am required to go cold turkey because i cannot afford these pills and the symptoms are pure hell. I am sure that if you decrese slowly in the smallest incraments over a resonable period of time, you should be able to have no problems. Just be glad that you are not on Effexor, I was taking
37.5mg for 2 months and was switched to celexa without any weaning or other precautionary measures. The side effects caused me to be rehospitalized.

>for both of you folks, when you go off Celexa completely, take a few (three) days worth of Prozac...it cuts the symptoms almost immediately...worked for me (and with Effexor too...)
