I find that 2.5 mg does nothing in the way of sedation or helping to sleep. 5mg, however, is somewhat sedating but I think it's also contributing to the lethargy I feel throughout the day (and this is many hours after I've taken it the night before). 7.5 mg I could not tolerate - I became a zombie.
I've read things about Zyprexa but can't get a handle on its sedating properties, how sedating it's supposed to be?
Thanks to whoever can shed some light on this.

How sedating depends from person to person.
You just need to take the medicine and see how you react to it.
That is the only barometer that matters to you (in my opinion).
Looks like 5mg is your number. ;)best regards,

Janelle, Zyprexa was the best med I ever took, bar none, and not sedating in the least. . and I also slept like a log. . and only gave it up when I reached my 50th pound of porkage.

I've been on Zyprexa for almost a month at 5mg, and it was very sedating during the first week. At the moment, however, it doesn't make me tired enough to fall asleep, nor is it making me drowsy. In fact, I feel more alert after taking it. I'd like to speak with my pdoc about increasing the dosage to 10mg, but I don't want to become a "zombie" like you reported. I also do not want any adverse side-effects. So, unless you're unwilling to tolerate possible side-effects, I would ask your doctor about increasing the dose a bit. Of course you have the option of suggesting a trial of Resperdal, Seroquel, or Geodon. The options are there...Best wishes. &8-]

Can you tell me the dosage of Zyprexa you were on? I ask because i had a very good initial reponse to Zyprexia which seemed to poop out. The doc raised the dosage but I also put on so much weight I had to stop. I feel so bad now that I think I might be willing to take my chances with the weight gain. I'm trying to get a handle on how high a dose i might wind up taking. Thanks,
Steeler
