Need experiences w/ SEROQUEL (and versus ZYPREXA)

The new pdoc is also having me switch from Zyprexa to Seroquel ... so I'd appreciate hearing from people with experience on Seroquel and also what anyone might think or know regarding Seroquel versus Zyprexa. Thanks a lot!

Janelle,

I've taken zyprexa and I liked it, don't know about seroquel.

Did you find zyprexa OK?

What is the primary motivation behind swapping
so many medicines (Lamictal,Zyprexa, others from your
other posts)?

I understand your concern,
this must be a lot to deal with at once, changes
so many medicines.

Did your pdoc just insist you take these medicines
instead? Did you communicate any favoritism towards medicines
you were already taking?

John,

Glad to hear that you've taken Zyprexa and liked it. I found it OK also ... when I first started taking it, it was great in helping me get to sleep, but that positive benefit soon wore off and I don't think it's doing a thing for my anxiety.

The *old* pdoc had me increase the dose a couple of times and when I got to 7.5 mg/night it became a disaster, too much - zonked me out and made me MORE depressed. What dose of Zyprexa are you on?

To answer your question - the primary motivation behind my new pdoc swapping so many medicines is because the combo of EffexorXR-Zyprexa-Klonopin was proving to be of minimal help and definitely did NOT keep me on an even keel. I was cycling up and down, up and down. I'm not sure why the new pdoc didn't just add the Lithium (mood stablizer) to address the cycling issue. Perhaps because I'm still depressed and still anxious.

No, I wouldn't say that the new pdoc just *insisted* that I take the new meds.

I did not communicate any favoritism towards the meds I've already been taking because I do NOT feel any favoritism toward them! Meaning that they have not done well for me, so it is time for some changes, but with change comes apprehension so I figured I'd try to find out other people's experiences with what for me are brand new meds! Hope this makes sense!

answer to this question is: zyprexa blocks all 4 dopamine receptors, and primarily the d2 receptor. Blocks histamine receptors 5-ht1 and 2 receptors. stonger dopamine blocker,

seroquel, only blocks d1 and d2 moderately, highly blocks histamine and alpha 1 receptors. Also blocks 5-ht2 moderately.

id say if someone is suffereing from schizophrenia, id go with zyprexa. If someone has some sypmtoms of schizo and parinoia, but not majorly id go with seroquel. Seroquel in my opinon can be taken by someone with a bit excess dopamine and norep. not like a person who suffers from schizo.
