PLEASE help

Posted by TenelKa on March 5, 2002, at 19:03:11

I honestly think I'm on the verge of losing it. GAD/Depression, 45 mg BuSpar daily. But it's the insomnia that's killing me. I can't get to sleep easily (45 mins+) and what's worse I can't STAY asleep! I wake up constantly and it gets harder and harder to go back to sleep, so when I wake up for the final time to get ready for school I'm exhausted and I feel terrible. It's making all the other problems a lot worse too :/ I don't know what to do! What I think is happening is that when I'm supposed to be going into REM sleep I wake up instead, but I'm not sure if that's it, and if it is, WHY?! Please, please, I need help, I can't be this zombie of tiredness any longer :/

Are you seing a trained psychiatrist?

Maybe you should consider trying an anti-depressant to
augment the buspar.

For starters you can push the buspar to 60 mg to help more
with the depression/anxiety. Also for the sleep one of the
best anti-depressant to start with is Remeron. You can
augment this with an SSRI (serotonin reuptake inhibitor)
like Zoloft,Celexa,Paxil,Prozac etc to better help the depression.

Just a few suggestions to get started on.

I seriously would get your depression treated beyond
the use of Buspar.

Yes I'm getting help, I was on Zoloft for awhile but it made me have heart problems and I was extremely hyper.

I'm glad you are getting help.
Sorry the Zoloft caused heart problems and
agitation.

You need to assess the tradeoff between
dealing with your depression/sleep as is and
trying more medicines/therapy. Unfortunately
the stronger meds don't always pan out the
1st go around.

Please discuss your continuing problems with your
physicians, if you continue to have difficulties
don't be afraid to ask a friends, relatives,GPs whoever
for the name of other docs if you want a 2nd opinion.

Conquering depression and anxiety requires a lot
of persistence and patience. Hang in there.

Best Wishes,
John
