took 15mgs. T.I.D today. in 3 days ill go to the full 60mgs. so far i have had no side-effects at all. had about 2 headaches. my vitals are perfect. i thought they would be running on the low-side with hypotension but not so far. i feel less anxious if that is at all possible already.
its just the fact that im back on A/D therapy.
just took BP 107/81 pulse 81...back to work tomorrow:)
everyone have a good night and good weekend and route for team USA in hockey gold!

In reply to day 2 on Nardil and all ok!!, posted by ross on February 22, 2002, at 21:38:14
Glad to hear you're ok on Nardil, Ross.
Medications I used along with Nardil:
Urecholine (Bethanechol) - a cholinergic to fight dry mouth and severe urinary retention
Inderal (propranolol) - a beta-blocker to fight the tremors
Ritalin (methylphenidate) - a stimulant to fight MAOI sedation
Serax (oxazepam) - a benzodiazepine used to fight MAOI insomnia.
Backup nifedipine for blood pressure emergencies (see http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Nifedipine-for-emergencies.html)So that shows that medications can be added to MAOIs, although the idea of adding medications to MAOIs itself is innocuous.
Feel free to ask me other questions that you may have about MAOIs since I have been on phenelzine, tranylcypromine, isocarboxazid, selegiline, moclobemide, and pargyline....

TSA,
how long does it take before Nardil starts to work a bit? how long did it take for you? what dosage did you take?
and if i take the 20mgs of procardia if my BP gets out of hand are there any good ways of getting your BP back up to a good level?
thanks

Hi Ross,
Are you finding that the Nardil is working yet or is it too early to tell ? Are you taking it for social anxiety ?
Regards
Janejj

Ross, to begin with, best of luck with your Nardil experiment. I took Nardil about 15 years ago, and initially it became my miracle drug. I had absolutely no social phobia and my cognitive skills increased measurably. Most significant and comforting, my sense of humor and ability to laugh reached new heights. In short, it was the happiest time of my life. Most unfortunately, it only lasted about three months. Eventually, the positive effects totally dissipated.I tried just about every other AD and none have come close to effectiveness that I once experienced on Nardil. I found that it took about three weeks to kick in. As I remember it, I had virtually no side effects until it ultimately kicked in. The noted side effects, insomnia, difficulty in ejaculating (not such a terrible thing, actually) were very manageable and certainly worth it. I also found the dietary restrictions not to be too intrusive. Best of luck to you!
I have a question for TSA West: Do you know of any alternative to Nardil or some drug that may be taken in conjunction with Nardil to re-ignite its efficacy? I tried Parnate with no success (slightly anxious, but no real benefits), Selegiline (absolutely no response. Perhaps my dosage was too low?) and most recently, purchased Moclobemide (very interested to hear your experiences on this one). I also tried Nardil several years after my initial try, and did not experience anywhere near the euphoria that I once had. Any information or suggestions that you have would be greatly appreciated!

Try augmentation strategies with Nardil, especially those including Lithium or Buspirone: http://www.med.nyu.edu/Psych/aug

Ross,
How's it going with the Nardil, I am interested as I am thinking about trying it myself. Have tried SSRIs and Tricyclic antedepressants and they haven't worked this time aroud. Have you tried SSRIs and tricyclics?

I'm not Ross, but i was hoping maybe you could help me. I have severe atypical depression and I am also on Nardil, with Wellbutrin. Have been on 45 for 5 weeks, just upped it to 60 mg., slight improvement in mood, but i feel very spacey, uncontrollable sleepiness during the day, insomnia at night, which i treat with trazadone. Still anhedonia and complete lack of motivation. i slept until 3 today, beautiful, sunny day. Have already tried Parnate, googd, but it pooped out. How long should i give the Nardil before giving up on it, and did the ritalin help with the daytime sleepiness? I also have bad, bad hypotension from it. Oh, I'm taking 300 mg. Wellbutrin with the Nardil, and i don't know if that is helping me or hurting me. Should i give up and just try Marplan?
Thanks,
Shrimp
