Which St. John's Wort Brand for 150mg?

Posted by misty99 on February 20, 2002, at 15:34:44

Cam or anybody else,

Here is my is my situation. 600mg of St. Johns Wort seems to be too low and 900mg seems to be too high. The good brands, which have worked well for me, such as Kira and Safeway Select, cannot be divided in half.

Can you recommend a reputable brand that carries 150mg capsules or is there a liquid branch I should look into? When the dose level doesn't seem to be low in my body, it works great so I would really like to stay with it if I can.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Misty - Are you taking capsules that can be twisted open? Many of them can be opened. You can pour half of the contents out and put it in a drink such as orange juice. Or in something like apple sauce or even peanut butter.

Bill,

Thanks for responding.

I was taking the Kira brand so your suggestion wouldn't work. But I switched to the Safeway Select Brand without a loss of effectiveness and those pills you can cut in half although it's not easy:)) Now, I have to experiment with the timing which is a whole other issue.

Are you on it now and if so, how long have you been taking it? I am deperately trying to stay with it because when it works, it is awesome. I also like the fact that my weight has not fluctuated. No, I don't have to be a size 8 but I also didn't enjoy the constant weight gain on Prozac.

Again, thanks for responding as that means alot to me even if I couldn't implement your suggestion.

Trust me. I have tried all kinds of brands and the only brand that really did the trick was made by "Nature's Resource". Goto www.naturesresource.com for more into. You can get it at your local Walgreens. -Jason911

Jason,

I should have mentioned it in my first post but Nature's Resource was not effective for me plus if I wasn't very careful, it caused insomnia even at 450mg. Frustrating, because it seems to be one of few brands that comes in 150mg dosage strengths.

Right now, I am doing a trial and error dosage testing with Safeway Select because I can break those pills in half. I have had the same experience with this brand as the more reputable Kira one. When it's good, it's very good, and when it's not, it's no fun.

Thanks for responding though as I know you were trying to help. By the way, I enjoy reading your posts.

I believe Kiron is the brand used in the studies. They have recently come out with a once a day dosing tablet.
