Reboxetine and Wellbutrin

Posted by pedr on January 10, 2002, at 9:41:04

I'm currently on Surmontil [trimipramine] and Reboxetine [edronax] and am in the process of weaning off the Surmontil.

Once I'm off the Surmontil [in 2 weeks] I'm to start Wellbutrin [buproprion] along with the Reboxetine.

Has anyone tried or heard of a Wellbutrin-Reboxetine combination?

Can any of the psychopharm-trained people [CamW, Elizabeth et al] give me any info on the potential side-effects, interactions or brain-chem mechanics of this combo?

Thanks ever so much for any info.
pete.

I wonder why you want to get off the Surmontil and how your doctor picked that one out of all the other tricyclics. I was on it too for a month.

In that combo of Wellbutrin and Reboxetine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline) is boosted twice, and dopamine is boosted once.

This board's opinion of Reboxetine is pretty low, but its opinion of the similar desipramine is high, oddly.

Hello CalvaryHill,
The main reason for coming off the Surmontil is over-sleeping and somnolence. I was prescribed it because the doc thought I had sleeping problems [but I didn't]. However, since I've come down to 100mg [I was on 300mg - no wonder I was over-sedated] I've noticed my background anxiety [what I call anxiety that just seems to be there no matter what you're thinking] increasing again. This is concerning me somewhat as this is likely to increase as the Surmontil leaves my system. On top of that, a lot of posts on PB regarding starting Wellbutrin describe it's anxiety and agitation causing effects.

As a result I'm wondering if I'd be better off on Surmontil+Wellbutrin instead of the planned Reboxetine+Wellbutrin. The idea being that Surmontil's pro-sleep, anti-anxiety effects will sit well with Wellbutrin's activating, potentially anxiety-promoting effects.

That's the way my simple little brain sees things anyway :-]

Cheers,
pedr.

I don't want to poo-poo the idea, but i do
know in rat models that the two ADs have
counter oposing noted modes of actions in a very
central noradernergic center of the brain
(the locus coerulus), so I don't know if they
would be fighting each other. But then again,
we are not rats either.

good luck,
-john
