Tianeptine/Stablon

Posted by Bekka H. on January 3, 2002, at 20:29:19

I've found a number of research articles on the Internet on Tianeptine, but I have been unable to find some very basic "PDR-type" information on this drug that is only available overseas. I need answers to the following questions:

1) What is the half life of Tianeptine/Stablon?

2) What is the time to peak for Tianeptine (i.e., the time it takes from the time you swallow the drug to the time it reaches peak blood levels)?

3) Should Tianeptine be taken with or without food?

4) Which hepatic/liver enzymes does Tianeptine inhibit, if any? Which does it induce? Which enzymes is it a substrate of?

4)What is the recommended or usual daily dosage? What is the maximum daily dosage that is safe?

5)Should Tianeptine be taken during the day or at night?

My physician recently prescribed Stablon, but the medicine is as new to him as it is to me, so I do need answers to the above questions. Thank you for any help you can provide.

FORGET MY OTHER TWO POSTS.......

STOP THE PRESSES...HERE'S WHAT I MEANT AND I'LL NEVER POST AGAIN...

1. 12.5 mg tablet taken 3 times a day.

2. NOT primarily metabolized by the hepatic cytochrom system P450, thus fewer drug interations.

3. For me, minimally sedating, but probably neutral between sedating and stimulating for most people.

4. Also, for me, not a very good antidepressant, but was a slightly effective anti-anxiety med.

5. Also, for me, didn't have any bad withdrawal effects except for mood swing to the low side for a few day and a little tremor.

I really appreciate your posts, and I thank you for being so conscientious about correcting the error! I've been taking the medicine for a few days and, so far, it's difficult to tell whether it's going to help me. I guess I have to give it more of a chance, but I am upset about hand tremors and eyelid twitching. These problems are not subtle, so if they don't go away soon, I will have to abandon this medicine. Thank you again for your help.

I had no side-effects from 37.5 mg per day of tianeptine.

Gee. . .I wish I'd get some more responses to my Tianeptine questions. Hasn't anyone else taken it?

It`s not FDA approved, so that cuts out most of the U.S. readers. I`m quite curious about it myself, it supposedly works the exact opposite of the way SSRI`s work, but has the same effect-very interesting.

I took 12.5 mg/3x day for one month with absolutely no results.

For the record, I have found prozac/fluoxetine, effexor/venlafaxine, and reboxetine to all be helpful with my depression and anxiety.

Remeron/mirtazapine, like the tianeptine, did nothing.

I guess the posters of this thread are no longer interested in this, but I want to provide this information for others anyway.

I only translated some things from a german Monograph, that dont show up at the sites available. I dont post links to them to avoid a http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#illegal from Dr. Bob because they contain links on how to order it.

Half life: 3 hours

Clearance: 14 l/h

Most Metabolites are excreeted by urine.

Food intake has a minor influence on absorbtion.

Time to peak: no info avail.

Cytochrome P450 is not involved at all. Metabolized by Beta-Oxidation.

Fatal overdose: not known. reported cases of 90 - 150 tablets per day over some time with no life threating symptoms.

Tianeptine has no effect on:
-sleep and wakefullness
-cholinergic system
-Cardiovascular system

For the other things do a search at google.

regards
Roland
