memantine plea

Posted by JohnX2 on November 11, 2001, at 23:48:14

Ok, I just finished typing my memantine prescription
plea for my psychiatrist. It was 4 pages long single
spaced. I believe I included enough information to
make a logical argument as to why I felt it would
alleviate my facial pain and help relieve my medication
poop-out. Also made strong correlations to my other
medication responses. I closed my remarks with a statement
acknowledging that he may think I am neurotic. I then
followed with a statement that if this is true then my
own belief that Memantine will work is enough to make
it work. End of debate.

Included lots of interesting articles too..

Any wagers on whether or not he bites?

Follow up..
I dropped off the "package" for the memantine
prescription request.

My pdoc is still apologizing for not returning
my phone call for a Klonopin refill and I was
getting severe hostility over it. My psychiatrist is
so nice, but he is so old school. I really wonder if he
will write this script. He sent me to "the best neurologist" in
town to talk about my facial pain, and the neurologist
basically said that the only thing I hadn't tried
was an anti-spasmodic (which Memantine just happens to
be) and he didn't feel that there was much more to
do. So my pdoc has the ball in his course and it
will be very interesting to see if he bites on
this memantine idea. Also the results for
it possibly preventing med poop out would be very
useful for this group. I even would let you
plagerize my dissertation on why the doctor should
prescribe the med if this works.

Sounds like a good position to be in. Hmm...so this neurologist doesn't know what to do after the antispasmodic. Looking into the future here John, in the unlikely event you can't try the memantine or it doesn't work out...it sounds like you got a little treasure here. If HE doesn't know what else can work then you can come up with whatever the heck you want, use all the internal logic you desire, and chances are, he isn't going to refuse you because he doesn't know any better. Sounds like you might have a walking prescription writer here soon John...might come in handy at times should you devise some other interesting combo.

This was my situation at my 1st pdoc.
He told me "you tell me what to prescribe, and
I will prescribe it". It was an interesting
scenario. No, I didn't ask for the hard candy.
This was when I was testing the usual anti-depressants.
