Can Parnate compete with Nardil?
Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, but Nardil and Parnate are very different from each other. One can't necessarily substitute for the other; and on the other hand, if one doesn't work, the other still may.

Has anyone tried Marsilid (iproniazide)? It was taken off the market in the U.S. after a few deaths (doesn't seem to stop drug companies nowadays..), but it is claimed to be (or, to have been) the most effective MAOI.

I'm wondering if Parnate is as good as Nardil.

That depends exactly what you're looking for. If Parnate was better than Nardil for every form of depression, then Nardil would no longer be on the market.
From what I've read, Parnate seems to be more motivating and energizing than Nardil, while Nardil is calmer and more sedating (please note there are people with the exact opposite reactions to each drug, I am simply generalizing here). Both seem effective for social anxiety, but for some Nardil is better in this regard, and in some parnate is better. It requires experimentation to know which is best for you. If I were you, I'd pick Parnate if I was sleeping way too much and depressed or Nardil if anxiety is my primary problem combined with depression.

Nardil probably helped me more than anything else with social anxiety and atypical depression. I stopped it only because I had to spend a month at a relatives house and I didn't have much control of the food I ate (they're Korean - lots of potentially high-tyramine food). The only hypertensive crises I've heard of involved large amounts of tyramine-rich foods (e.g. pepperoni pizza). The risk is fairly low if you're careful (see the updated MAOI diet somewhere on this site) -- the key is moderation.

It's not marketed -- it caused too much hepatotoxicity. A similar drug, isoniazid, is still used for TB, but it's not a MAOI.
