Obviously, it is helping thousands upon thousands of people; otherwise, it would not still be around. As with any product, you hear more about the negative aspects than you do the positive ones.

I wouldn't get too worked up about all of the negative posts on here about Effexor XR - I believe in the placebo effect, and that is something that can work both ways.

:-)

Although my personal experience with EffexorXR was not good, I can tell you that a friend of my sister has had WONDERFUL results with it (she takes 150 mg/day).

So, even as someone for whom it did NOT help, I'd still say give it a try - we all vary in what works for us, and it's worth a shot. Please let us know how you do on it (I say go for it!)

When I began taking effexor (first the "regular" and then XR) I was desperate. I was only just functioning and had tried several tricyclics and every SSRI on the market. After three weeks on the Effexor, I felt fine.
That was six years ago. Today, the Effexor is still doing the job. The few side-effects have been mild, especially compared to the depression. I have stopped the medication several times over these years. Coming off of 300mg in three days, I have never had withdrawel symptoms. I am new to the site and have been surprised by the bad experiences others have had with Effexor. I know a number of other people who have done well with Effexor--it worked, with few side effects, and was easy to get off of.

So, good luck.

When I started fxr, there were a few days of unpleasant side effects, which were cleared up by some xanax and an inprovement in my diet... Now I have only mild residual side effects, very mild. I started at a puny 37.5mg a day and am up to 112.5 per day right now, I personally can't wait to make the jump to 150mg... Take your time with it and go as slow as you think you need... I wouldnt quit it until you at least try it at 150mg, the most common therapudic dosage.

goodluck!

ps. i dont think you'll find many drugs of this sort without some type of side effect, its give and take and you must weigh the good vs. the bad...

Try not to think it's too wonderful. I was watching a show(60 minutes, 48 hours, one of those) about AD's.... and about how makers of paxil and effexor are getting sued like crazy, and they are pushing to get them removed from the market in the US.

That irritates me. Sounds more like the work of crisis-mongering lawyers than a movement of educated and concerned consumers.

Don't get me wrong. I think court systems should have full power to check the ill effects of the profit motive... but suing to get a drug taken off the market just because a minority of those who took it had a bad experience? It doesn't seem much different to me than if a bunch of people who were allergic to Skippy brand peanut butter sued to have it taken off grocery store shelves.

I'm all for forcing pharm companies to disclose all the information about their products they've got, and requiring better labeling (like a bordered, bolded section in the sample insert about potential withdrawal effects), though.
