When I began taking effexor (first the "regular" and then XR) I was desperate. I was only just functioning and had tried several tricyclics and every SSRI on the market. After three weeks on the Effexor, I felt fine.
That was six years ago. Today, the Effexor is still doing the job. The few side-effects have been mild, especially compared to the depression. I have stopped the medication several times over these years. Coming off of 300mg in three days, I have never had withdrawel symptoms. I am new to the site and have been surprised by the bad experiences others have had with Effexor. I know a number of other people who have done well with Effexor--it worked, with few side effects, and was easy to get off of.So, good luck.
