ChrisK:
Thank you for answering my question concerning the possibility of weight loss while taking Pamalor. Might I inquire as to the type of diet you've lost your 25 lbs. on? Thank you again

You're welcome. I was able to lose some weight on a low carb diet but since then have changed to low sodium, low fat diet due to other heart problems. It has come down to more sensible eating than a strict diet. I cook everything from scratch, only using fresh ingredients. All of the prepackaged stuff has too much salt for preserving. It's just as easy to steam some fresh vegetables instead of eating canned or frozen and by doing things like making my own spaghetti sauce from fresh tomatoes I have control over the sodium content. We also have a bread maker which comes in handy.
It really is just a matter of fresh, simple and sensible cooking. I don't count my fat grams but I know that they are a lot lower than they used to be. I started out at 275 lbs (a lot thanks to Zyprexa) and this morning had hit 247 lb so I know it can be done. With my body structure I am looking to hit the 190-200 range maybe by sprintime since it's hard to get out for walks during the northern NY winters.
Good Luck,
Chris

Sorry I have missed this post. I *have* lost plenty of weight with Pamelor in the past. The reaction was awful aggitation, insomnia, etc.I tried going back on it with Risperdal, and it worked for a short bit, then conked out. I also tried lithium, depakote, et al with Nortrip, and no success. :-(
From *Medline*, it seems two meds, Pamelor (nortriptyline) and protriptyline (Vivactil)< sp? >
have a *thermogenic* effect. The Pamelor caused just *horrid* sweating, and that is possibly why.
Just a walk down the street, and I would be sweating buckets. For long-term treatment, I think maybe we should be having a second look at tricyclics.

Yes, I still take 7.5 mg of Zyprexa at night. My own experience is that once the weight gain levels off (for me about 6 months) then I reach a steady state and can actually lose weight while taking Zyprexa.
