Out of curiosity, has anyone experienced musical hallucinations after or during taking benzos? I never in my life had these hallucinations until I took the benzos. I did read on the benzo- buster board that benzos can cause this. Anybody had this happen to them? It is very aggrevating and causes me alot of anxiety. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I take Klonopin & sometimes hear faint background music at night. However hearing (non-existent) music can be a symptom of Depersonalisation Disorder which I have. It doesn't really bother me any more.

I would mention this to your doctor. I doubt the benzos are *causing* it directly. A lot of meds may *unmask* symptoms of something else. At worst it could be some temporal lobe dynsfunction, but probably the meds just illuminated some quirky wiring you didn't know you had. I get that from serotonin meds especially.

> I have mentioned it to my doctor and she just shrugged it off. I think she just thinks it's part of my depression. I am also taking 50 mg. zoloft. Maybe the serotonin is causing this. Who knows?! I am really getting tired of trying to figure this all out! Before all these medications all I suffered from were some bouts of crying. Now I have a ton of problems. Maybe the meds. are just not good for me. Oh well, back to another wonderful day-yuck!

It sounds like the Zoloft might be the one causing it. I had that with Prozac BIG TIME. It never bothered me much though. I could be listening to music and hear "different" stuff playing in there from time to time. If you know it isn't real it really is more of an illusion than a hallucination. BUT, if this is causing you a lot of distress I would tell the doctor, and be assertive about it. You could be having some temporal lobe stuff being triggered by the Zoloft. Ask your doctor if it is possible that the Zoloft is provoking temporal lobe seizures and see what he/she says. They may not have thought about that. There is a questionnaire here about "subsyndromal epilepsy", dang, I don't have the link to it (can someone help?).
Hope you get this straightened out-tell us what you find out ok? There have been others here (including myself) that experience that kind of stuff and do have epilepsy.Mitch

>Back when I was in college, just prior to having my first episode of major depression, I was studying late for exams and started hearing music. (It was the Beatles, as a matter of fact)I thought it was a radio, but could not find the source. As I listened, I realized I was not hearing the entire song-just a couple of phrases over and over. This happened prior to me taking any meds-of any sort. Also, I do occasionally have episodes of depersonalization.

I also get musical/auditory hallucinations (hear music kind of out of the blue, in my mind) just BEFORE I have a major depressive episode. Meds seem to HELP it decrease, even go away!
