I was on Celexa for six months and noticed a decrease in appetite and rapid weight loss. Has anyone had this problem too (sorry if I am asking an old question, new to the list). My new doctor just changed me from Effexor (which was not helping) back to 20mg of Celexa. Celexa really helped me immensely with severe situational depression before, except for the weight loss.

Celexa made me lose weight, but I think it was because I ate a lot of junk while I was depressed since I didn't have the energy to cook, and I didn't move around much - Celexa kind of got me moving again.

Cathy,I have taken all of the SSRI antidepressants and I lost the most weight on it than I did any of the others. It just seems to have the greatest appetite supression. The only other AD that had similar appetite suppression was Wellbutrin.

> > CathyFor the first few months on Celexa I continued to lose a little weight but depression kills my appetite. Once the depression was relieved I started gradually gaining weight while on Celexa. Just a little at a time. Now I am not so thin and enjoy eating again.

> > > CathyI'm on 40mg of Celexa and 150mg of Wellbutrin SR. you would think that this combination would kill my appetite. Well, one of the symptoms of my depression was that I was not eating. Now that I am not depressed, oh am I eating! I've gained sooo much weight. Now I need to get back on an exercise program (the last MDE killed that) and I need to start watching what I eat again.. These are luxury problems.

Thank you to all who wrote. I have been weak and without appetite for a couple of days...I guess I must adjust to Celexa again. I found it to be very helpful before, so it is worth the wait.
