Hi all
Just wondering what the collective consensus is regarding
des(methyl-imi)pramine and imipramine?
Imipramine
*Tends to sedate (excellent sleepy feeling within 45 mins)
*Tends to be anticholinergic (gulf mouth syndrome)
*Upsets those with ulcers or refluxIn contrast to this, what does desipramine do? I have not tried it, and cannot find goodre
reference to the difference in literature.
I would like to hear if anybody would like to take the time to append any experiences with both drugs,
and how they react differently in your body, and most importantly, how you felt in your mind.regards

Imipramine is broken down by your body into desipramine already. If you had blood drawn you would find significant amounts of desipramine in there already. Desipramine by itself has fewer side effects as far as dry mouth. It is less sedating, in fact some people find it quite activating. It is good for ADHD, concentration. I didn't have any reflux problems aggravated by DMI.

> *Tends to sedate (excellent sleepy feeling within 45 mins)Desipramine can make some people jittery. (So can imipramine, for that matter, but I think desipramine might do this to some people who find imipramine sedating.) As far as I can tell, it's not sedating at all.

Also: constipation, increased heart rate, cognitive impairment, ...
Desipramine is relatively lacking in anticholinergic side effects.
Imipramine is probably better for panic disorder.

That might be related to serotonin; desipramihne is a relatively selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.

I've been taking it for about 2 1/2 weeks and am beginning to notice some improvement, without any side effects (except maybe a little dry mouth, but that could just be from another medication that I'm taking). I'm not finding it helpful with concentration and focus (attention problems), though.
