Experiences with Seroquel?

Posted by AKC on July 1, 2001, at 11:59:15

I have been on Seroquel for about a year now (I think - so many med changes, it gets confusing). I had been on zyprexia for about 7 months - it worked great, but it cost me about 10 extra pounds a month. My problem has been really bad distorted thinking. The seroquel helps, I think. But with the other meds - effexor xr and lithium (now in the process being switched to topamax), I really don't know. And when I am having a "spell" I still get messed up with distorted thinking. I am on 200 mg twice a day - I am certain that if I go up any higher, I get very sedated. I am realizing that I really don't know what this med is doing for me. I am just hypothesizing that it is helping with the distorted thinking.

So my question is simple. Why do you take seroquel? How long have you been on it? What side effects have you had with it? Pros/Cons? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could try some Ziprasidone.

Just in case I wasn't clear, what I really am looking for is not suggestions of what to try in place of seroquel, but others' experience, strength and hope with seroquel (as they might say in a twelve step program) - that is your experience with seroquel - why you started it and what is has or has not done for you. I'm hoping from that I might better understand why my doctor has had me on it for the past year and what it has done for me.

Thanks.

I'm sorry because I can't tell you much about my experience with seroquel because I've only been on it for sleep at 25mgs for about 2 weeks. I find it.....weird. I feel kind of zombied out on it, even at that dose, but I always wonder what's in my head, and what is the drug doing to me for real (just like you). When I take it I feel a LITTLE bit like I'm on acid. I stopped it 2 nights ago, because I was already extremely tired so I didn't feel like I needed it, and I slept a little bit better (IMO) and not for 12-15 hours like I was so...
I'm not sure if it helped with my distorted thinking (partially because I don't know when I'm being distorted or not, or what exactly that is), but I think I was a little less irritable, and freaked out/worried on it. Not really sure, sorry.
I am dxd as having BPII by the way.
Can you tell me what your experience has been with lithium?
Hope I helped a little at least.
