Hi I am on effexor (375mg a day ) mostly because I have had become depressed over a time of being bed bound due to a botched back operation. I am now not bed bound anymore but still am suffering with a lot of pain and depression. Went to a pain clinic and was prescribed all sorts of pain opiods and effexor. the doc said that it would help with my depression and with my back pain, I said ok. I am at 375 and he said I can go up into the 500+ range. Has any one ever heard of this!

I don't know. But depression can amplify pain, so perhaps if the depression is controlled the pain lessons? But then your pain is causing the depression so I would think if you were able to control the pain the depression would be gone.
I'm starting to ramble, off to bed with me. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Some of the older ADs are used for pain control. I have a friend who was taking ampitrypline (sp?) for nerve pain and it has helped. Someone will be able to give you a better answer.
BEST WISHES

> WillowI was feeling damn near suicidal from back pain and boredom because my back hurt too bad to want to do anything fun. Anyway my aches and pains started showing up all over so my Doc gave me remeral to help me sleep well and to hopefully boost my spirits along with the 20 mgs of Celexa I take, anyway most of my pains have really subsided, except of course the back, which now that I have 2 lortabs daily, I am actually getting through the day with some spring in my step and the will to go forward. This works for me... Good luck finding what works for you. Sandhi
