How long for Celexa to work good 4 anxiety?

Posted by Janelle on June 17, 2001, at 1:32:24

Recently started taking Celexa for depression and anxiety - almost two weeks of side effects and no real improvement. How long does it take Celexa to kick in. Now seem to have less depression, but what about ANXIETY? That is still real bad for me. Does Celexa work on that? Any answers greatly appreciated.

Give it a full 6-week trial to determine whether it has a beneficial effect. After 6 weeks the dose-response curve flattens and no further benefit is seen according to the research on SSRI's.

Sal - It really depends on the person. I have seen people who have partially responded by 6 weeks go onto fully respond by 16 or 20 weeks, without raising the dose or using augmentation strategies. The dose response curve does not flatten by 6 weeks in the real world at all. I see increasing effect in those who seemingly fully respond to SSRIs at 4 weeks.

Most clinical trials are of only 6 to 8 weeks in length. This is where the meta-analysis studies get their 6 week figure. Plus, they group non-responders in with responders, also skewing results. One cannot just read studies, one must be able to dismantle them and also read the studies referenced, especially those which support the conclusions. The knowledge is gained from understanding the study, not just reading it. - Cam
