I've been taking 225mg Effexor-xr for a few months and started on Adderall this morning for possible ADD and narcolepsy.
Has anyone had any experiences with this combination, or with just Adderall. Also wondering about possible ties between
Effexor and narcolepsy/eds. Thanks.

I take both Effexor xr (262.5 mg) and Adderall (10 mg 2x, and 5 mg 1x) plus Serzone (500 mg) and thyroid meds.
The combo is fine for me. I would be curious to find out if you find Effexor activating or sedating. For me it is very activating and causes insomnia, which is counteracted by the serzone.
As for the Adderall, I had been taking ritalin which was ok for me, but as soon as I took the Adderall, within the first day, I noticed that I felt calmer and more focused.

> I found Effexor to be energizing and effective for the first month or so and then dropped off. Upped the dosage and added Wellbutrin but never felt that good. Never had insomnia with effexor
but my sleep patterns are shot with the narcolelpsy or whatever this is. Who knows what
works on what anymore. Pdoc uses a dartboard and
a blindfold to pick mine and pretends to be really
thinking about it as he dozes over my chart. BTW
does Serzone space you out? I was getting strange
visuals and having balance and memory problems. One thing I can say for effexor- after serzone, I
felt sharp mentally (for a while).

Yes, Serzone does zone me out, that is why I take it at night. By morning, I am no longer zoned out.
The dartboard analogy is a good one, but it isn't your doctor's fault. This is still a trial and error process.
I have a sleep disorder, too--obstructive sleep apnea, and use a cpap, which does the job well. Once that was corrected, it make a huge difference in my fatigue level, except when my thyroid got real low, but the type of fatigue was slightly different.
Does the adderall work for your narcolepsy? how much impairment does your narcolepsy cause?

The hard part is finding a dosage that doesn't make me hyper and on edge. Still wondering about the interplay between the narcolepsy (eds) and Effexor. Going to try a different pdoc to get another opinion. Hope to get
completely clean soon and get a baseline to work from.
Curious about your thyroid problem and if it affects your feelings of depression or just your energy level.
This is the end of the thread.
