What do you say about the above cocktail ? I suffer from borderline personality disorder. Moreover, I had a full blown manic episode last week, and my PDoc sayd it is the Zoloft that caused it, so I can't take SSRI.
Effexor - For my BPD, social phobia
Risperdal - Intrusive thoughts
Depakote - For my BPD also to counteract some side effects that effexor causes me (e.g. hyperarousal)What do you think about this cocktail ? Do you think Depakote will counteract my symptoms of hyperarousal (PTSD-like, I guess), as well as those caused by Effexor ? Is the combination sound ?
Also, is Depakote supposed to make me more "lively" ? I am somewhat "numbed"... What do you say ?
Please answer... I feel my questions are not answered by the group members lately. I don't know why )-:
Thanks !

This comes up from time to time, so I added to the FAQ something based on supportive responses from others:

Risperdal is better than you might think. Risperdal doesn't just help with the intrusive thoughts, it also helps combat mania--as does Zyprexa, Seroquel, and Geodon. So trust your doctor with this one.
I think Buproprion and Effexor are supposed to be the best antidepressants for _not_ causing mania. See the Tips.
Trust your doctor's judgement in all of this, though.

How does Depakote supposed to feel ? Will it make me numb ? More energetic ? Counteract my hyperarousal ?
Thanks again,

Depakote is often prescribed as mood stabilizer or an anti-manic. At high enough doses (.75 blood level) it made me feel like I had cold compress around my brain. I would think it might counteract hyperarousal.
Good luck.> How does Depakote supposed to feel ? Will it make me numb ? More energetic ? Counteract my hyperarousal ?

It doesn't make you somewhat "apatheic" or "indifferent" ?
I don't want to nag, but how does having a cold compress over your brain feel? really "cool" ? (-:Jimmy
