Has anyone had any experience using effexor for anxiety? I have been on paxil, buspar, prozac with no succcess. They made me more anxious and increased my anxiety symptoms. I have been on wellbutrin for 3 months with no change. The only thing that helps somewhat is zanax .5mg 2 times a dday - just enough to take the edge off the physical symptoms but they are still there. My MD has added effexor (as of yesterday) and so far I've had no adverse reactions. I would appreciate any feedback on this question thank you diana

Diana
When you start effexor you may have some physical symptoms similar to anxiety and this is the drug not anxiety, how my pharmascist explained it. In my opinion it works really well but you need to give it time to really notice. For me this was about five months and with gradual increases until I was upto 150mg.
Best Wishes
WillowPS when I started I had insomnia for the first while, now my sleep is back to normal

YES,
I was suffering with major depression anxiety and social phobia. I started at 37.5mg and went as high as 225mg it took me about 6mths to really see a big difference. Out of 7days I had 2 good days. The high dose of 225mg I found after 5mths was really only numbing everything, I had no motivation and I slept for 18hrs (DAY AND NIGHT) so I started to reduce my dose. I now take 75mg and find that out of 7days I have 5 good ones! Sorry for rambling! It really is an individual thing(med dose)what works for one may not work for you, work with your dr and I hope you will find it(EFFEXOR XR) works for you!

I was thinking of other options for you such as mirtazapine, oxazepam, valproic acid, gabapentin, and I can name a few more that I have less confidence in.

I would cast another vote for considering gabapentin
