boo - Sometimes doctors and pharmacists have to be cheerleaders. The start-up side effects of many drugs really suck, and much of my time is spent trying to convince people to keep taking the drug for the first month.
I took my second dose of Effexor today and about 1/2 hour later I had a cigarette. I got so dizzy I didn't think that I would make it back into the house from the garage. I am also feeling a bit queasy and have a stiff neck (that could have been my massage from yesterday, though; my masseuse has an elbow that would put Gordie Howe to shame). C'est le vie.
Thanks for the positive feedback on Effexor. If you ever plan on coming off the drug, make sure you do wean slowly and you should have little problem coming off the drug.
Take care and thanks for the post - Cam

> Take care and thanks for the post - CamCam, I never thought in a million years that I could stick out the very aggravating and scary side effects of an AD. But with the help of this message board and people like you, I am proud to say that I am in my 3rd week of Effexor XR and my side effects, if any, on a scale of 1-10 are about a "1". I read everything "with a grain of salt" on this message board, I sort for the positive, am aware that withdrawl from Effexor is very possible with proper medical management and feel that my depression is being lifted from my very soul. Thank you for being a voice and an advocate for us first-timers. Yes side effects can be very unnerving and scary for the novice as well as the experienced. As it has been said before on this board, "you choose the AD whose side effects annoy you the least". Thanks again, Cam. :) AnneL

Cam: I strongly second your statement, but with a caveat. My docs (I see a pdoc for meds and a psychologist for cognitive therapy) were very good at combining honest information about side effects and positive support to help me get past them. They were particularly helpful during the period I was taking Xanax regularly, which terrified me ( I was afraid I would become addicted- you can check back, that was my first post on this Board). I sometimes get pissed at them (such as at their reluctance to give me an additional sleep augmentation a couple of weeks ago) but they've inevitably been right and I've done well when I listened to them. Cheerleaders, yes; but it was combining cheerleading with honest information which created a relationship of trust that got me through the rough patches. That and the support I've gotten from places like this Board.....
