How effective is zoloft for anxiety and panic?

Posted by Margit on February 10, 2001, at 12:47:36

I have been on Paxil in the past with great resulsts. I went of after a few years because toward the end it gave me acid reflux. After a while I tried it again - reflux again. I am on Nortriptyline right now 60mg (not in the therapeutic range yet). My pdoc wants to augment with Zoloft or eventually switch. Is Zoloft really effective for PD and anxiety? Any response is greatly appriciated?

I was on Paxil for awhile but it broke me out and also made me irritable and angry...talk about depressed and anxious!
I started on 25mg of Zoloft and then went up to 50mg. The 50 made me feel a little "wired" and I had trouble sleeping so I backed off to 25mg and that corrected it. My headaches have decreased tremendously and have felt more even on the Zoloft. Good luck.

If you do go onto Zoloft I would really like to know how it works for you with the Anxiety and Panic. I too was on Paxil for 3 years with great results, but then weaned myself off it thinking I was ok. THe PA's came back, and when I went back on the Paxil, it didn't work as well. (Apparently a common effect with ADs - wish I'd known before I came off). Anyway, the PDoc put me on Celexa, the Imipramine, the Prozac all with awful side effects. I'm now but on the Paxil with Xanax to help. I would like to try Zoloft, but unfortunately it's not Govt subsidised here and would cost me a lot. A lot of posts on this board are more about Depression and Anxiety rather than panic. Please let me know how you go, if you do go on the Zoloft.

Zoloft did wonders for my anxiety. I could suddently speak in public with ease (something that used to give me panic attacks). All of my insecurities left me, in fact. It was amazing.
