Jumpy/Nervousness in Legs - What's up with this?

Posted by CT on September 27, 2000, at 14:44:46

Almost every night when I crawl into bed I get what I call neverous legs. What the heck is this? My legs feel like a jumpy or nervous sensation is moving up and down my legs. It is as if my legs are begging me to tighten or excise, if I tighten my muscles it feels better!!! Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance!

It's the AD side effects. I had all that on Zoloft. It's a worry these pills do such things.

You might want to look in some of the archives (do a search) because this issue was addressed at length some time back.

I'm not sure the cause, but several people had recommendations like warm bath, hot shower, ... can't remember too many. Warm milk I think.

There's a lot of info out there on this.

CT - I agree w/ shar. I think some ADs make "restless leg syndrome" (RLS) worse, but I can't tell because I'm on so many meds. Check the "restless legs" site:
www.rls.org
and let us know how you are doing - jane

If it is due to your ADs (too much serotonin can cause this, I think), your doctor can prescribe another AD that is sedating, that you can take in the evening to help you sleep. This is what I do, because effexor (and the SSRIs before that) makes me very jumpy, restless, twitchy, and gives me rls. I take serzone to balance it out, and don't have the rls or agitation anymore. For me, it involved lowering my effexor dose as I added the serzone.

BTW, caffeine intake can make it much worse.

> BTW, caffeine intake can make it much worse. That sound like classic restless leg syndrome. My wife has had this for at least 25 years--long before she had ever taken any AD's. Her doctor recently diagnosed her with restless leg syndrome and put her on klonopin. She is doing great.
