I have been surfin' the net and was really curious as to what the real scoop was on this drug was as a mood stabilizer. I take Celexa 50 mg; topamax 25mg pills 3, three times a day and sonata 10mg to help me sleep and then I was just put on 300 mg of neurontin. I am reading some pretty scary sutff about this drug and was woundering if there was any truth to it.

I am a member of a bipolar disorder discussion group and neurontin is used quite readily by many of the participants. I have noticed that they are taking it because the side effects from lithium and depakote were too severe and the SI's from neurontin are not. Don't know if this helps you but it's all I really now about neurontin. I'm on lithium myself and haven't had any trouble.I hope you have good luck with the neurontin, I haven't heard anything terrible about it, its actually had great reviews on the bipolar sites I've been to.
Best wishes

In my experience at 1200 mg/day for one year, which is actually a moderate dose, it did little of nothing. Neurontin should stand for neutral.

There was a recent thread on Neurontin. See the beginning of the thread at the site below.

Mac,
Weight gain isn't a trivial issue at all! I haven't noticed any weight gain, but I only take 300 mg. per day ... 100 mg. x 3 for general anxiety disorder, and it works very well for me. I guess I'm lucky that I've had a positive experience with this drug, since I've read many posts from people who've said it did nothing for them. As for a drug interaction site, your best bet would be to ask Cam and/or Sunnely since I personally haven't had much success at those sites.
Best of luck. If it works, you should know pretty quickly.

I have been on Neurontin 3 months and it has done me a world of good. It is used for pain control for arthritis, mood swings, seizures, what it does is opens the blood flow to the brain stem. That's how it was explained to me by my doctor.I have severe explosive disorder and it's under control now. I take 2700mg of Neurontin a day. And Trazodone to sleep. I read the other post. I think it's the doctors that are over medicating or something. There's nothing wrong with Neurontin if it's taken in the right dose.

CAM OR SUNNELY...
Snowie said you could hook me up with some good drug interaction links? Llike how all my different meds will interact with each other and what will cancel out and how much is too much ect.
Plus what kinds of areas of the brain the different drugs turn on. I go and look for these things and all I find are things that make no sense. Side effects would be a nice bonus. Good and bad.
If this is too tall of an order just point me in the generalized correct area and I can take it from there. But I have had no luck.
Thanks,
Mac

Hi Mac, if this is my third post in less than one hour it's because I was having problems registering. I'll make this one brief. Check out the following websites. WWW.Amenclinic.com and www.Brainplace.com. Both were developed by Daniel G Amen, neuropsychiatrist and nuclear scientist. He's got some really great info! Q-)
Hope this helps.
This is the end of the thread.
